What's your most hated weed?

Phragmites Australis (common reed grass, non-native). A hardy rhizome that is perhaps the toughest of invasive grasses to battle. Once you've been invaded the war goes on forever.

"Coming to a wetland near you!" (... already too well established East of the Mississippi River)

btw: Poison ivy, wild grapes, purple loosestrife are child's-play to deal with, by comparison.

Any plant that grows where you don't want it is a weed. :)

I agree with this comment.

I can accept any weed in the lawn area that is green. I hate anything (including grass) that grown in the rock driveway. I especially hate dandilions.

Buckhorn plantains & medic in the lawn are tough to kill, more so than creeping Charlie or hawkweed. Weed-B-Gone Max + crabgrass control (w/quinclorac & dicamba) will easily handle 'quack', 'crabs' in general, and most undesirable bunch-grasses. Spot-spray lawns or wick it on near flowers beds.

btw: be advised that K-31 Fescue, as good and popular as it may be to control erosion, is not advisable anywhere near pastures as it will spread to them over time. An enzyme within (.. the original, affordable cultivar) will cause grazing horses, cattle, sheep, and deer to have reproductive difficulties. (Strains have been tweaked to minimize this problem, but what'cha finding and what might you have sown if you hadn't heard about this?)

Poke-weed, Japanese knot-weed and staghorn sumacs will fall to TCP or Tri-Mec.

Another :2cents:. tog

Sand burrs; fortunately Image herbicide keeps 'em under control.

Jeff, I was picking those burrs out of my socks for years, but it's been a while since I've noticed them on my sandy ten. Guess spot-spraying has cleaned up the open areas they prefer. Call me 'lucky'.

btw: Since posting #15 & while waiting for a promised rain that will have me making the rounds with the hand-sprayer a day after, I did some recon and decided to yank some yellow fox-tail from two of the the shooting berms vs spraying them fully again with the pricier stuff. It pulls up easily enough but sprouts readily everywhere. ~ 2 bu of it into the bun pile. Good news is that it doesn't spread by rhizomes. Bad news is that it will show up in every untended corner, and by the time you spot the tell-tale tops it has re-sown itself far & wide. :hissyfit:

Gosh, yes. I was coming to say the same thing. When I moved into my place, it hadn't been occupied for maybe six months, and polk plants were six feet high and three inches around at the base.

Horse acid or høymole is well-known two names of this plant that I struggle with. up to 9000 seeds on each plant and each of the seeds can survive 50 years in the Field
