Buck, so you had a hot, dry summer? We always have hot summers, but it was actually cooler this year than most, and we even got a good rain in July this year, which was a bit unusual. And as a result, the local newspaper has run several stories about the cotton harvest this year; best harvest anyone can remember (even those who've been in the business for over 50 years). I think it's all been harvested now; huge stacks everywhere, and all the cotton gins are running 24 hours a day.

Of course, it's been too dry lately (and still 90 degrees in the afternoons). Saturday the dummy next door decided to burn some trash in a barrel at the edge of his pasture while he was mowing the yard (which was way past due for mowing). His two little kids decided to play with the fire; burned off more than 30 acres, but we got it stopped at my fence line. Thank goodness the breeze was from the right direction.

And then Sunday night I got 2" of rain and right now it's 60 degrees and we're having another downpour./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!!!

I've got skiing to do/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

After last year's pathetic winter, I figured I could get ready for spring early. It was the end of March.

First I raked all the gravel I had plowed into the lawn back onto the driveway.

Second I took the snow tires off the wife's car

Third I took the snow brush out of the truck.

What did it do the next day? SNOW

So, Mossroad, don't buy the snow tires, I want a good ski season.

SHF ... get you a nice snow sled and you and I can try out some of these wonderful Michigan trails .... guaranteed to bring a smile on those winter days!
Course, we do need some snow for that ... and my 'Cat hasn't gotten 50 miles on it in the past 3 winters!

With one well dry, a second is reeeeaaaallll close, I guess last winter's lack of snow in MD is my fault. Having the Kubota with FEL and rear blade, A Troy Bilt GT with a 42" snow blade, and a Sears GT with a 38" snow blower, I guess I'm all ready. Ready for what? All we had last year was 2". Everything else was just flurries. The kids were bummed out since we have blaster hills for sledding. Dosen't work too well without snow though. With precip the last 10 months being 16" below normal, had to pass on raising pigs this year for lack of water, not much seat time since we have only been mowing once a month or so.

IM READY FOR ANOTHER JANUARY LIKE 1996 - WE HAD A 30" SNOW FALL, AN ADDITIONAL 10" THE NEXT WEEK, AND AN ADDITIONAL 14" THE WEEK AFTER!!!

We have enough veggies, fruits and food put up for a few weeks of being snowed in.

AND I'M ALMOST DONE WITH MY BUCKET EXTENSION!

My thoughts are that it will be more snow than normal in the Midwest.
For my personal side, I do like the cooler weather. Sleeping at night with the window open and 58 degrees in the bedroom makes me sleep like a baby. I can always add clothing and being very active anyway winter is one of good times. My favorite time is the fall when you can be outside at 9pm and it’s a comfortable 65 degrees and no bugs.

I'm with you, PJ. I love the fall. You can get some work done without ending up covered in sweat.

I'm renting a York Rake this weekend.. they have a nice deal, pick it up Saturday at 2pm, bring it back Monday morning at 8am, and pay one day rental on it. Gives me all Sat afternoon and night, all day Sunday and Sunday night, and just drop it off Mon morning.. all for $56. To buy one of the same rakes would be $400-$800, they told me.

Anyway, I have a blade on my JD4300, and a walk-behind JD snowblower.. so I'm fairly confident it won't snow. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

The past couple seasons the snowmobile dealers were in bad shape... at the end of the season having hundreds of thousands of dollars still in inventory as spring rolls around...

...or being a devoted snowmobiler... can you imagine spending upwards of $10K for a snowmobile and have it parked in your garage doing nothing for two years... /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

These are probably the worst for depreciation... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
