I have a problem here our 60 year Daughter fact checks every comment or opinion that we make
Name a song she is finger flicking for the author of the song.
If say it is 5 hours to Dallas she comes back saying the trip is really 4.5 hours under normal trip.
cannot eat a meal with out the thing ringing several times. of course she types a answer.
If closes off any subject to be discussed . and discourages opening any questions.
Her children are the same with there phones . At times of visiting our place for say Thanksgiving dinner. The wife prepares the meal and the g-children sit reading the small screen .

And my idea of letting them sit and we go out to a restaurant meal because they will never notice. sinks like a lead weight.
Told wife instead of inheritance just give them a new cell phone and donate remainder to charity . sank also.

Used to come and we could walk in the woods or fish in the pond now no interest at all in the outside activities .

seeing 3 children sitting on couch with mother in easy chair not talking just looking at there little screen . shut off the wi-fi and modem cause serious concern to the group. Then have adult kids walking around looking for the signal.
Does anyone have idea how to break this cycle or stop the nonsense

Forgive me if I say something already said, I didn't read the whole thread. I feel the same as you. When I was a kid, me and my friends would take off on our bikes in the morning and come back at dinner time. Watch and see what happens, these kids are going to be fat with neck and back problems. Sorry if it sounds harsh, it's just my opinion.

And with today's attitude both parents would be in jail for poor parentlng. Can't let the kids out of your sight anymore.

I recently went to the county fair this year (military ID got me in free) and was impressed at the talent of 13 to 17 year olds exhibits, everything from home canning, backing, art work etc. Thought to myself, maybe this country isn't doomed after all. Then I walked around the corner and saw the politians booths, same folks in office for years and trying hard to stay in office for more years to come. How do these young kids stand a chance if national, state and local politians remain in place and can't think outside the box.

I have twin 8 year old grandchildren, their parents limit electronic devices. Of course now by age 8 they are older but as young as age 3 they would give them one of their old cell phones that was no longer connected to a phone carrier while the kids were in the car. These grandkids are quite a handful and so using an electronic device was a reward. Something special. But when they pulled into the garage the phones were handed back to their parents. For Christmas last year, when they were in 2nd grade, our daughter bought one cheap $300 laptop from Walmart that they were going to have to share. When we pulled in for Christmas I had my daughter take me to Walmart, headed to the electronics area and said, show me that computer you got the kids, She pointed to the box, and I said, "Put it in the cart, me and dad are going to get a second one so they each have one." Boy was she surprised and the grandkids were THRILLED, they each had their own laptop.

The kids do their homework on the computer, they know how to name and save files. They are actually very good at taking turns since they are twins they have always had to, but I thought each kid should have their own computer. What I do is I get on the computer with them, we do it together so we are interacting. Like for my grandson, on his computer I set a bookmark at Amazon for toys. He LOVES it! We sit together and look at toys he likes. Sometimes i like to cruise Amazon myself, so do kids. With my granddaughter she used to LOVE computer games where there is a girl and then you pick clothes and jewelry and hair and dress the little girl. That is it, that is the whole game. But we do it together, it is not the kids off by themselves. Basically I become interested n what they are interested in on the computer and they show me and we play together.

These are quite busy children, They have been on a swim time for 2 years now, they take music lesson, my daughter has a boat and they spend lots of time on the water, they go crabbing, just real fun and busy. So I don't think electronics are bad, they can be bonding if you do it together with your grandchildren, we also play a lot of board games and we cook together. It is just part of the mix nowadays. Of course THEY would like it to be a bigger part of the mix, since 1st grade my grandson begs for his own telephone, but he is told not until middle school. My husband and I don't even have a smart phone, what do we need one for, we are on the farm.

It is the same in France, everybody always looking at their phones. I just sent my first text about a month ago. My daughter says I had it on my iPad, I didn't even know it was there, and then I googled it and sure enough I had the ability to text (through wifi) on my iPad so I will text my daughter now and then because that is what she prefers. She prefers texting over e-mail. So being a good mom, I figured out how to text. Our son, he does not have an Apple phone so I can't text him. That is okay we have gotten by all these years without texting, if we want to communicate with him we call. Simple.

What about all of us who sit around and read and post on TBN?
If it is too hot I get on TBN.
If it is too Cold I get on TBN.
If it is too wet I get on TBN.
If it is too dark I get on TBN.
If I am not in the mood I get on TBN.
Other than that, I go work on my broken tractors.

We have a 47 year old daughter and 12 year old granddaughter that we never see without them being on a cell phone or computer. I'm about to the point of not caring to have them come to visit, or for us to go visit them, because they never take a break from it. But because the daughter has some serious health problems, I took the granddaughter to the orthodontist yesterday morning to get braces put on her teeth. She was playing on a little computer both going and coming. I asked once what she was playing and she said, "Pokémon." However . . . . she's a straight A student in school. And I'm sure she knows more than I do about computers and cell phones, and they both seem to love grandpa, so I guess it ain't all bad.

Sometimes I get on Facebook first, then TBN, then back and forth to see what I missed.
Then dinner, and the ritual starts over.
Then before supper, again.
Then after supper, what did I miss? Better check quick.
Oh ya, after Reilly and Hannity I have to hit it again.

Bird, we have one in grad school and another that's starting freshman year at college. Both are buried in their phones or laptops almost 24/7. With that said, they both were in the top 20 in their high school classes, sports, work many long hours after school and on weekends, have friends, relationships, socialize, travel, volunteer, etc.... and they get outside a lot and are physically active. So, while it sometimes irritates me, when we look at it, they have full, active lives.

If they turn into couch potatoes, that's one thing.... but so far they are not.

Only problem I see here is the O'Reilly and Hannity part, that'll screw you up for sure...

My cell is always with me on my belt.
I use it so rarely that I don't even know my number.
My package (real old one) is $10./m with accumulated saved unused time.
LOL, probably could talk for a year without adding a dime.

But then I only use it to call home if late or some other change of plans etc.
LOL, then there is my GPS, used so often that I forget how to turn it on. give me a paper map any day.

Yep, you guessed it, I'm not 20, or 30 either. LOL, any day I wake up is a good day!
