Greetings...

My YM 336D (4wd) with YM1500 FEL should be arriving tomorrow...the rear tires are loaded (calcium I believe), but should I consider wheel weights as well? (the old Farmall Cub I've used for years as weights as well as loaded tires...but it's 2wd and rather needs it....) Anyone have any experiences lifting heavy objects and moving around (carefully!) on hilly terrain with opinions:)?

Thank you in advance!

A 336D is a good size machine. With the Yanmar factory loader, it is beyond sweet and you are lucky to have it. It seems like the bigger machine, the less it will be affected by a heavy load in the FEL. The calcium in the tires is a good thing and having a counterweight on the rear is better. On the hills, go slow and keep the load low and you will "keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down".

Greetings...

Thank you for the info! I'm trying to decide whether to build a rear counter-weight or find a nice used box scraper or the like (I figure a straight blade most likely won't be enough...). I'd actually prefer to have nothing back there, as I'll be skidding logs using the 3PH, but for some of the heavier duty FEL tasks I guess it makes sense.

Thank you again,

My cousin's Kubota is used for skidding logs occasionally. He has the box scrape set up with attachment eyes and wire rope loops that work better than log chains. This may be commercially available as it didn't look homemade.

Whatever that you put on the back, it helps if it is heavy. I use a fancy back blade from LandPride model 3572 which swivels in more directions than most. It has the advantage of being very heavy. I think it is close to 500 lbs. My wife is really impressed by the appearance and adjustability that blade, and thinks its cute! In fact, she said to make sure that when I buy more implements that I be sure to get nice looking ones like that.....purely in the interest of supporting my partner I quickly agreed to buy only the cutest new implements on the market.... :). In fact, I assured here that I'm looking at some really cute backhoes right now.....

For something more compact, the The 336 can handle a 5 foot box blade - which is alao handy implement in many ways. I won't need one of those for the 336 because (following my wife's advice) I just bought some terminally cute endplates for the Landpride backblade. The endplates allow a blade to have similar functionality to a box blade. Plus tilt, offset, and angle.

The wheels on your 366 look a lot like JD 950 wheels. It might be that you could find some used JD weights. Is there a used tractor parts place around you? There is a place called Wengers (www.wengers.com) near me that has a whole pile of tractor weights.
