Yanmar ym1700
Hello everyone, I've been using the forum here since just before buying my YM1700 a few years ago. I've been overhauling and replacing parts to get it in great working condition and love this little tractor for what I use it for.

I'm now thinking about adding rear wheel weights for added traction (not a fan of water ballast). However I'm not finding any wheel weights for this tractor. I've only ran across a picture of a ym1700 for sale with rear wheel weights an even those didn't look like the right weights by the way they bolted on the rim.

So, does anyone here have any information on where I may find the right weights for a YM1700. I'd rather not modify anything if it can be helped.

Thanks for all the information you guys share here, it's been really helpful and a pleasure to read through.

Wheel Weight that fit JD. the Ym240 JD. is the same wheel. I run water in my 63 Ford And can't complain. It was in the Rear tires when I purchased it. My thinking then I was skeptical and I could always just drain it! Not the first complaint. Have the huge lug Org. bridgestones on the Yanmar and get all the traction I've needed. No water or weight.

I found some Ford wheel weights that almost fit my YM2310. I made some spacers and they fit perfectly. But when I get new tires I'm gonna be adding some sort of fluid weight to the rears. I have tubes in the rears on my Ford 9N and they are full of water and calcium chloride. I really like the added weight for traction and the lower center of gravity for stability. Since the fluid in the tires only fills about 70% of the volume the weight is biased towards the bottom which helps stability. Wheel weights have equal weight distribution, so even though they help with traction I don't think they help with center of gravity.

I'm looking at doing this for rear weight. This way, I can add it or remove it almost instantly with no problems. It does require a quick hitch, harbor freight is a good product and price.

We've always ran water in our rear tractor tires in the past. What changed my mind was years ago I was running the largest JD tractor pulling dirt scrapers. The JD and tire engineers all recommend ballast weights instead of water in the tires. Also in that application to run maximum air pressure in the tires. Reason for this was liquid in the tires made them hard and a pain to repair. Ballast was more adjustable and the max air pressure allowed for slippage enough to prevent drive train damage. This scraper application was considered the hardest thing any tractor could pull even over a subsoiler. Anyway... it just made sense in my everyday tractor use to do the same. Also the being able to adjust or remove all weight appeals more to me.
Thanks for your input though! 😉👍

My application would be more for plowing or moving dirt with a scoop or box blade, so I'll need my 3 point hitch. Being a small tractor (with a recent overhaul) I'm just looking to get all I can out of it without hurting it. 😉👍
