When is a free truck not worth it?

As I get older, there are a lot of projects that I just won't tackle. It's your time that is the most expensive investment. If you can justify the time, it might be worth it.

I figured when I retired, I'd have all the time in the world for my projects. Now that I "have" retired, I've realized that time is running out.

Ain't that the truth. We have a beater 24' pontoon boat. About every other time we go out on the lake, I'm back there hanging over the engine removing, cleaning, re-installing the carb, then the seats are shot and the wiring is a mess. I've had it with fixing up junk. Yep it was cheap, but I have been shopping newer used pontoons with 4stroke 90-115hp engines. The wife's jaw hit the floor when I told here we will spend somewhere between $10K & 15K on a boat motor & trailer. She is just gonna have to warm up to the idea....cause it's happening:laughing:

I just sold a 1999 f150 reg cab for $600 scrap this should be more than that ?

Yeah, 'free' is a dangerous word, Curt.

Tough call, but I am turning down 'free' more-and-more. I still think about the 'free' Fergie 35
offered to me years ago. Turned it down, and it is rusting in someone ELSE's yard now. It cost
the "lucky" recipient a few hundred clams to have it transported, however.

Actually I have a free car sitting in my yard right now. Had all kinds of plans for it three years ago! And it's road worthy.

I think that if the Posiive aspect outweighs the Negative aspect, then I would take the truck.

Not to recently, that's just the type of truck I was looking for. Fortunately I never found the right deal and I've since realized how much I would have hated dealing with an old truck and spending time wrenching on it. For what it costs to make monthly payments on a new truck, and being able to enjoy the comfort and reliability of it, I can't imagine every dealing with a project vehicle again.
