I thought the licencing requirements in Canada were insane. Please don't mention this again, you might give our government some fresh idea's on how to screw us harder!

California doesn't miss much when it comes to revenue.
One good thing that is still hard to believe is they went to 5 year tags for trailers and currently it's $18 for 5 years.
Before that I was spending around $40 a year per trailer.
The oldest rust bucket car is about $90 a year.
Trucks are always more because of weight fees unless it's older than 1936.
A friend actually used a Model AA ton and a half stake truck for his carpet business... the loading dock was 3 miles each way... with his stretch vans he could only carry one roll... could do 6 with the Model AA and it was car tags.

30 years ago, when I moved back to CA, I went to the DMV to regisiter my truck,
a 1980 Toyota 4x4. They told me that ALL pickups in CA were commercial vehicles,
and I must pay a weight fee, unless it was under 3000#, or I welded a camper
shell to the back of it. (I guess the non-removable shell made it into a station wagon.)
AND, they required that you get your own weight certificate. The first one I got said
3050#, or so. I took out the spare and some junk, and got it below 3000 pounds. No
weight fee!
No trucks that light anymore, not even close.
