I am looking to by a new compact utility tractor...... any opinions from the forum members on when is the best time to buy? Spring; summer; fall; winter.... any specific month; day...etc..?

By the way - I am looking at a JD990 for use on 35 acres, and this will be my first tractor to own / operate.

Thanks

Welcome to TBN. I predict that you will find lots of information here and very friendly people.

Where are you located?

My opinion on the best time to buy, is when you need the tractor. That said, there are some good deals right now with many manufacturers. I would recommend buying the tractor before the end of this calendar year. This is a better time to buy than in the spring when everyone is looking for a tractor. The other advantage is that if you are going to use the tractor as a tax deduction, you get it for this year instead of waiting until next.

Good luck on you purchase.

Some times when dealers get new models, the old ones may have a few more incentives to move.. same at the end of the year when a dealer is setting on alot of inventory. Lots of times seasonal items may get a discount when that season is over or drawing to a close. for instance.. sometimes a mower will go on sale at the end of mowing seaon.. etc.

I'm located in South Central Indiana..... looking to build a tree farm on our recently purchased 35 acres. Xmas trees; hardwoods; etc... So buying a tractor would be much like cars at the end of the model year - only this is at the end of growing season?

Thanks

PS - any comments on the JD990?

Good replies above, especially about the deals from the OEM's and closeouts. Historically I'd say the winter, things are slower then. BUT you are talking about a CUT, people with a 3/4-acre yard (and money)are buying a $10,000 CUT at all times and having fun.

So buy when you need and when you think you are getting the best deal, don't look back...to much. :)

Good Luck!

From my own experieces the best time to buy vehicles is between Thanksgiving and Christmas.Sales are down and a little commision is better than none.Even though I am not a gambler I`ll bet a dollar to a doughnut it will work for tractors too.

Buy it when you need it and when you have the money. Next, follow some of the times others have mentioned.

I bought mine at a time when JD was getting rid of small 4000 series tractors because of the new 2320/2520 coming in. They were giving about 25% off MSRP. Happened to coincide with my needing to upgrade and having the money.

Watch for incentives like Zero Percent financing,or cash discounts. Also look for older models in stock that dealers are looking to move. Even a new model that is a year or more old is a candidate for a good price. Depending on location, season is not always a factor.

I am not sure there is ONE best time to buy, i think a lot has to do with the region, the particular dealer and what he has that he really wants to move. MY advise, find the machine you want, make the best deal and go for it.

Life is too short, buy it now and start having fun.
