Re: wher r john deere\'s made

I think Kubota is a good company with many US facilities but it's Headquarters is not in the US so the profits (less dividends) are sent to Japan.

Re: wher r john deere\'s made

I highly suggest you take a look at corporate structure and where those profits are paid Neil. The ONLY reason that Kubota has a plant here is to avoid the tariff and other cost related shipping, customs, etc., expenses. The profits from Kubota DO NOT go to Kubota America. Kubota is a Japanese corporationg and it's headquarters are not in America. Kubota is NOT an american company.

Deere is an american company. The gross profits come back here, the corporate headquarters and all decisions are made right here. Deere sends it's corporate managers all over the world to attend to their affairs. Sure they have Deere plants and such in other countries but those decisons are made right here. Just like Kubota's decisions are not made in the US they are made in Japan.

Re: wher r john deere\'s made

Your talking about two different companies. Kubota Corporation Japan is a industrial equipment company that also does concrete, steel pipes, vending equipment, tractors, and other stuff. Kubota Tractor Corporation (KTC) has its headquaters in Torrance California. Yes, there is a relationship between the companies, but they are infact different entities.

I don't mean to sound neive, and I am playing devils advocate to a point. I'm just trying to point out the fact thats its a global market and where a company invests its money and tallet is more important than where its roots are.

( ONLY reason that Kubota has a plant here is to avoid the tariff and other cost related shipping, customs, etc., expenses ) KMA makes RTV's, BX's, and even some models that are not sold in the US for the world market. Clearly there are some advantages to US production, however this is not entirly true.

( Just like Kubota's decisions are not made in the US they are made in Japan ) Also not correct. The product managers and many engineers are all from Torrance. Take a look at the Japaneese product line, compare it to ours, then tell me that people on the other side of the globe are calling the shots. Yea, there is going to be corporation. In my experience I'd say the Italians have more control over New Holland than the Japaneese have over Kubota.

Re: wher r john deere\'s made

Really, I don't see how any of this matters much. All these companies number 1 goal is to be profitable. They will do whatever it takes to satify the stockholders. If they can save a dollar by paying cheaper labor in other countries they will do it as a means to put more money in the corporate pocket. It may cost them in the future, but that's not the concern of the stockholder.

It is a definite balancing act. If you ship too many jobs over seas, it could hurt you big time later. If you don't send some jobs over seas, you may croak now. The corporate mind has resolved that sending manufacturing over seas is best for it's bottom line. Of course, it's not just the manufacturing industries anymore.

We are sending Customer Service overseas in the high tech industries. When's the last time you talked to a computer customer service representative that didn't have an accent.

Anyone really interested in this issue should read the recent best seller, "The World is Flat", by Thomas Friedman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. It's a real eye opener about the whole process of globalization.

All I have to say Neil is that Kubota American is listed as a Japanese company by the NYSE.
