Where can I safely lift from?

On my tractor i jack it up from where the draw bar slides in. Its right in the center and is strong enough.

Von, the only trouble with lifting in the center is that when you remove one wheel, the tractor will tilt the other direction. Maybe not a problem if you're expecting it, but can sure be a problem if you ain't./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Use the axle iself.
Once the correct tire (right/left?) is off the floor, I'd put a jack stand under both axles, then take the wheel off. I don't like leaving anything on a jack.

While we're on the subject of lifting tractors, what type of jack do you all find most useful/safest? Floor Jack or Bottle Jack or ???

I prefer my 5 ton floor jack to any bottle jack, 10x the contact with the floor. No way is a floor jack going to tip over. I also block car/truck/tractor up before going under, don't trust those $.50 seals on any hydraulic jack....

Ford used to sell a jack for the N series that lifted all four corners of the tractor using the three point hitch.

spence, while you're under there, put some grease on your mid PTO shaft.

Anyone have any pictures of that jack? Sounds interesting.

Maybe that would be a problem with loaded tires but that's how I do it without loaded tires and there's no problem. Also if you just put the bucket down flat on the floor and it's not in float the tractor can't tip, even with loaded tires but if you wanted to be extra safe after jacking slide some blocking under the tire that's staying on. But for my money, as Von said, it's dead center and a very solid place to jack from with a floor jack.

www.yesterdaystractors.com. There is a guy in the 9N-2N-8N forum that has sales fliers for about every doo dad you could get for those tractors. He's kind of a N series John Miller III. ;)
