Where did the name come from

Not sure how I missed this thread until now, some fun stuff about all of you.

Mine is obvious on the surface but there is a story. My given name is Robert and of course S is the first letter of my last name. My dad was also Robert and he went by Bob. To provide distinction, I was called Rob. Back in the day (I'm sounding way older than I really am), the name Rob was fairly rare. Rob Petry was about my only competition and he's older than me.

So I grew up being the only Rob outside of the Dick VanDyke show but never thought much of it until I graduated and joined the workforce. Lo and behold, there is another Rob and his last name also started with S. This was unique for both of us and we continue to call each other "Rob S".

I now know a lot more Robs, but most of them are young whippersnappers!

Yeah,
I missed it somehow too. Great thread you started David and it's worth reviving IMHO.
I guess you and DKrug already figured out my screen name. Three Rivers was just too long to write so 3R did it for me. The RL are my initials exactly like you guys said.
I sure have found this an interesting thread learning so much about many posters.

Awesome post, thanks for reviving it. So many names have so much more meaning. As for my screnname.... we bought 5 acres a few years back, it was an old nursery, specializing in (drumroll please) Podacarpus. Anybody that still doesn't know what that is (most people). Typically it is a shrub, 4-6 feet tall, used for screening and privacy. Also very popular as a Bonsai. Gets a dark purple fruit that the birds and squirrels just love.
When my wife and I feel fancy, we refer to it as Poda Grove Estates. And after three hurricanes, I would not trade our 25:eek: foot tall podacarpus for any other wind break in the world.

I've had a life-long fascination with gargoyles, plus, as I get older, I'm starting to look like one! On a lot of forums I'm 'flgargoyle', since I live in FL, but I'm starting to use 'scgargoyle', since we have 7 acres in SC that we are going to build on in a couple years. In my mind, I'm already there!

wdscot....the "wd" is my initials. the "scot" is for Scotland. Unlike the many lucky tbn'ers who have long established family roots, I had an intense interest in my Scotish heritage. I did as much reserach as possible on the clan origins and history. I spent a couple of months in Scotland enjoying the country and people and learning to fly fish. In the end, I don't have any more established family roots than I had before, but I do have a sense of belonging to something akin to a larger family base and this has helped my imediate family bond closer to gather. It also gives them something to laugh about when they see me wearing my kilt.

Good question, thanks, Wayne

Tony123...........well, Tony is always taken, so I add a few numbers. 123 are the easiest to remember. Eddie, talk about under achiever.

Actually, it has a meaning to it, but I didn't realize that when picking it. In high school, a girlfriend of mine made fun of a dance that I did. She called it the tony 123. Hahaha, you can guess how good a dancer I was. Three steps :D :D :D

i dont write under the name anymore but I used to use osymandius. It comes from a poem called ozymandias. I think every kid in England had to learn it
OZYMANDIAS
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away

Whenever I start pontificating and blowing hot air using that name brings me back to earth.

Interesting thread. When I signed up on TBN it seemed to be common to use our given names. I recently found out that my cousin has same middle name as I do. She does not like it either.
