Websites are just like life itself. Change is inevitable. Change can be good or it can be bad. I've noticed how everyone likes to see a site stay the way it was when they joined. That won't happen. People evolve. Be that the new folks that come on board, or the old guys who were on the site from day one that do the evolving, most people are uncomfortable with change.
At first the "charter members" are just happy to have a place to hang out. After a while, they begin to get the idea that it's "their" website. Some people start to believe post count gives them more "rights", or that their opinion is more important. (If it were up to me, post counts wouldn't be displayed as they serve little purpose) A new guy comes along that has a different outlook or info that conflicts with someone who's been around the site for a while, then the flame wars start. Then the cliques form. Sooner or later, a few people start to test the limits of the house rules. Then the real changes take place.
NO website is immune. Funny thing is, you can see it coming but everyone seems shocked when the change happens. WHY? What happened to "our" site?
My take on the issue? Let things change. In fact, MAKE THINGS CHANGE. This site or any other would get oh, so boring in a matter of no time if we had the same opinions from the same group of people.
We miss old aquaintances when they leave. Some folks leave because they just got bored. That may well be from the LACK of change just as easily as they leave because of unwanted change. Enjoy meeting new people, keep the memories of old friends gone away, and roll with the punches.
There's been a few people who left this site, be it on their own or being banned off of here. There's a couple sites that have cropped up due to those people. Now we have 2 or 3 sites to share our opinions on. Change is good if you accept it as good.
