Yeah, I joke about South Bend quite a bit. Been here all my life. No plans on leaving. We're about 5 miles south of the Michigan line. Spend a lot of time in Michigan.
At least we keep both states economy going.LOL..

Nothing happening in New Mexico. Don't need anymore folks coming here. The weather is way hot in the summer and bitter cold in the winter. Unemployment is high, Taxes also are high. Too many out-of-staters (mainly Texans) grabbing the elk and deer permits. I'd suggest Arizona, Texas or Califorado.

It still happens... even if it is harder and in some ways it is much easier... just look at how the barriers to Law Enforcement have been changed to actively recruit Women and Minorities... OPD average first year officer is 100K

When I hear young people complain on how hard things are... I often have to speak up.

1. Young people must no longer serve in the military... just think how this affected previous generations.
2. Most everyone I knew growing up used their veterans benefits to buy a home... these benefits still exist for those that serve.
3. Ditto that for education... so many were able to get their college or trade education due to military service.
4. Never before in history has it been easier to for women in all areas of employment... so much so that preferences are given... my city recruits women for Police and Fire from anywhere in the United States.
5. People starting with nothing still make it big... they need desire and willingness... this is most true for immigrants here in the SF Bay area...
6. This morning SF Chronicle said average Tech Industry earns about 200k in parts of the SF Bay Area...
7. The cost of money has never been lower... my first mortgage was 15%... last year I got a fixed mortgage at 2.75
8. People are living longer than ever... many once fatal diseases are no more.
9. Kids are now covered with Health Insurance up to 25.... I grew up in a family without Health Insurance
10. Just about everything is safer and on the job injuries continue to fall.

Dreams are wishes your heart makes... people make it everywhere... some areas have more in sheer numbers than others.

Too many only concentrate on the negatives... and others are only looking for a chance and are not afraid to take it.

One of our new nurses grew up with a single parent because her father was in and out of jail... a bad guy.

She had a dream to become a Nurse... she enlisted right after High School Graduation... she worked in the medical field and her service made it possible for her to earn her Nursing Degree... now she is a fresh grad nurse at age 27 making $52 an hour and just used her benefit to buy a modest condo... nobody handed her anything... she made the most of her situation and followed her dream...

I lived in Albuquerque for three years; lots of stuff happening there then...just leave your car parked on the street and lots of stuff would happen. Don't know how many sets of hubcaps, fender skirts and radios I replaced. Wonderful climate and weather though. Loved the Summers and the Winters were so much nicer than here. Where else can you wear a short sleeved shirt when it's snowing?

I lived in northeast CT until I was 52. I did like the vitality of the state, economically and otherwise. Once family responsibilities were squared away, I decided to move around and try other things. Since 2004, I have lived in Virginia twice, Germany, and now Maine since 2008. I don't miss CT at all now, life is much easier in Maine.
