I'd suggest you get prepared for a struggle getting the "U" shaped piece reattached to the transmission

Oh no! It was bad enough getting that stupid part off the transmission. Its harder to get back on?! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I dont' have any stipped bolts from any "monkey fists" but do have a little rust under the rubber mat that I plan on taking care of before finishing the assembly.

Yes, the platform removing is a royal PITA! Don't ever want to do that again. Trying to think if there is anything else I want to do while the tractor is torn apart.

Yes it was last year that the front axle wheel hub broke. As you might recall that was a fun challenge getting on the trailer with a front wheel missing.

Also had that "starter" problem. Ended up being a weak battery that was causing the fuse to blow (I discovered after buying and installing a new $400 starter).

I've thought about replacing the whole tractor and going with another but figure, why now? Now I know all its faults and have fixed a few.

I just cut the platform pad in a spot that is covered by the control valve cowling

By the time I reached this point in the project I had given up hope of finding a shortcut and was just going to follow the sequence in the service manual. Should have thought about that cut idea, would have saved a bunch of time.

Hope to get it all back together over the july 4th weekend, provided I get a replacement part.

Thanks for all your posts. They helped in quickly diagnosing the problem.

Hi,
I'm new to tractor forum, I own a tc45d which just recently had the same problem with the poor welding job
where the shaft attaches to the B bracket. Im just starting to disassemble the platform. I have one photo from this forum
and the usual diagram but would like more. I've searched the net, no luck. I'm not understanding how the mat comes off.
I know there are screws underneath that need to be removed. It appears it needs to be cut to get it off, I'm pretty sure
that's not right. Any help would appreciated.
thanks
Marv

Marv, make one cut with a box-opener knife in front of the Joystick and lift the mat. It works very well and the cut is almost indistinguishible afterwards.

3 year Resurrection... yep.. mine cracked also on a TC40D (no Deluxe here either). Thanks for the original post as well as all the great comments. It definitely is a major design flaw. After evaluating the situation and all that needs to get removed just to get access to the 2 trans bolts, I sat in the garage and contemplated my options over an Ice Cold PBR..so dont think I just jumped at with a bunch of cheap tools :)

Now before you all beat me up and verbally abuse me... please keep in mind that 1. I am way out of warrantee 2. I am on a very tight schedule as this is a work machine used to brush hog vacant residential lots to avoid code violations from the municipalities (Cant have any down time) 3. If It happened once, It may happen again.

With a cut-off wheel..

The next 2 photos show the failure.
Now, you guys have talked about full welds and spot welds. On my unit here, I have full welds on one side of the plates and No welds on the other side of the plates. the failure happened on the No Weld side.

I am going to weld this back up myself, reinstall the assembly, tack weld the cut-out back on and douse it with some rustoleum.

after cleaning up the anodized plates, you can see here where the penetration of the weld on one side weakened the integrity of the rod...causing it to fatigue and crack... they should have welded both sides from the get go.

1 day done!

Thank you MarkoCSI. I have a 2001ish TC35D. The Trans Pivot (New Holland #87300017 ) broke at the U Shaped part closest to the transmission. The tractor for a few days was basically sticking in gear (push forward and it would continue to creep, same with reverse). Until the weld completely broke, and stuck in reverse going a a good clip! Looking at removing the floor, FEL, seat etc was not worth it on this 20+ year machine if you can cut an access hole. I will be doing that tomorrow, hopefully I can line it all up and just have someone weld it back in its location. If not, it will allow me to remove the Trans pivot with much less work. And thank you for the pics!
