Where to Buy Best Battery?

Maybe not the best brand, but I got a Advance Auto Marine Starting battery for my 861 Diesel this past Spring. I read the Marine batteries were a little more robust than standard car batteries (they stand up to wave bouncing boat hulls) and this one had 800 CCA and was cheaper than a similar car battery with the same CCAs. It also has 2 extra connection terminals with a nut I can used if needed for accessories. So far, it has worked great, but I haven't had to use it in cold weather yet; time will tell.
Whoops, I should have said the new marine battery had 1000 CCA, my old battery I removed was only 800.

Pls check ColdCrankingAmps vs CrankingAmps? ... Unusual to have 1000CCA in marine use.

I am also in need of a battery, only got barely 2 years from my factory Exide. I've seen many interstate come in my shop and after a drain they don't come back. This is a tough decision after reading this thread, I don't want to spend much over $200 so I seem to be limited, however, I will be buying a trickle charger!
I also would like to know if we need to go back with the same CCA's. I have a 925, is an 850 ok and 1100 overkill?

Folks are worrying about brand, which means almost nothing.

We spend the money on AGM batteries, which cost twice as much and last twice as long. For high demand vehicles the Odyssey AKA Diehard Platinum is the gold standard.

Sears often puts them on 10% off sales this time of year: I ordered one online for local pickup.

Bang-for-the-buck, we bought Kirkland at Costco, which I understand have now been replaced by Interstate-branded batteries, with a 42 month replacement warranty.. Both made by Johnson Controls....

Agreed - I've yet to find a better value than Costco batteries (for the cars too), they are typically $20-$40 less than the auto stores.

OK, I hate to 'jinx' myself here but. I 'lost ' my first factory ford battery from 1996 in 2000. I went to Wal Mart and got the biggest one they had. sixty dollars as the receipt says today. So its now 15 years old. I run a winch off it also..In the last two years I use the float battery tender on it when I'm not using it daily. It is stored inside the basement so I suspect that that has saved it allot from the tough cold starts. So im not sure if the good luck is related to the tender on it and or the basement home..

I've had great luck with the Walmart batteries, too. I think batteries are about 1/2 design, the rest how you treat it with some ' luck of the draw ' with the battery you pick out of the stack. I still have my original batteries in my 2002 Dodge Cummins, but they are loved year round to keep them in top shape.... I am a battery tender guy. But again, you have to put some effort in making any battery last.

For my JD 790, I would like to get a good solid non-oem battery. I have read that Optima makes a fine yellow top. Any recommendations? Best prices?

Thanks.

When my battery on my 2010 John Deere reached five years, which was a few months ago, I wanted to replace it before the winter even though it did not fail. I took it down to the Deka factory store which is about 12 miles away and bought an exact replacement for about $50.00. It is a blem and I traded in the old battery. We will have to see how this fares. There has been a knock on the JD batteries installed in the 2305's but if a battery lasts more than three years these days, you are doing pretty good. I use the Deka batteries in all of my vehicles with good success.
