Where to mount a tool box?

/ Where to mount a tool box? #11
i have a VN ROPS and there more of a flat spot that on Scotty tractor. I took and old metal toolbox and mounted it on top of 3/4" plywood I put under the tool box for stability and put a piece of plywood inside the tool box so the bolts would not rip through and u bolted it all to the ROPS. Its right behind the seat. I keep a few wrenches, sockets, huge cresent wrench (for lift pins etc), bungee coard and extra pins. I also have the small maybe 1.5" tall toolbox on the bell housing. Which is good for pins and maybe the most common wrenches for the tractor like 10,12,14,15,17,19mm but not much more.

Found an old photo that includes the plastic toolbox mounted to the front edge of my Harbor Freight Quick Hitch. - (Photo) - Its a convenient location for 3-point pins, clips, gloves, etc.

Coosa I'm glad you started this thread. I have a 2210d and was thinking where I could put a tool box. I like all the ideas. I might try one between the ROPS

Thanks for all the replies, and especially the pics. I'm more convinced now that the best place is to tie into the back of the ROPS system in some way. I had a backpack type bag that a NWTF guy had given me, and decided it was just the right size for a hanging tool bag. I had in mind it being temporary when I attached it, but it works so well that I may just leave it on there. It has plenty of room in main compartment for all the tools I need, and also has a couple of side compartments. I keep the little metric wrench for tightening the nuts on the 3 pt hitch chains in one of them and its real handy. Here is what it looks like:

I think that's the best location for a rigid tool box if I decide to install one. I was thinking of putting one on this side before asking you guys:

I would have to remove the light and the grab handle to put it there, and a tool box is really more convenient in the rear anyway. I don't really need the light, but I do grab that handle often, especially when getting on the tractor. Glad to hear that others got some ideas from this thread.

This is a Fredrickson tractor I bought last summer and posted on here about the trouble I had. When they rebuilt it, the mechanic didn't get valve cover just right and it first leaked oil, then blew a head gasket. Fredrickson stood behind it and even picked it up and returned it without me ever having to haul it. It has been rock solid since. I even used it to pull a 2 bottom mold board plow to break my garden. I didn't need anyone to tell me that was way too much plow for the tractor, but I geared it down and went very slow and it handled it fine; temp never even got to the middle. I wouldn't use it for such tasks very long, but we are talking about an hour of work.

I have a 4' disk and an Andy 400 cutter and both pieces of equipment match up well with it. A 6' scrape blade keeps up my driveway, and I have a cultivator that I used for years with a 50 hp tractor. I had it set up for 2 rows with the big tractor, but just do one with the Yanmar. The rows are 40" instead of the 36" I've done in the past, but that's not an issue since I have plenty of room.

Another thing I added to the tractor that made life much easier was a Pat's Quick Hitch system. I tried to get by without it, but its so hard for me to line it up by myself. I have back problems, and trying to turn around and line it up just right every time I changed equipment was a big hassle. I had used a Pat's system on my JD5075 before, and didn't really like it because I have some type 2 equipment and some type 1. I finally bought a telescoping link system for it, but the Pat's works fine on the Yanmar since all the equipment is type 1. It made almost everything work better since it shifted the equipment 4" back. I was having trouble using my cutter and the disc without it, but the Pat's device solved those problems in addition to making it so much easier to change equipment by myself. Here is what it looks like if you have not seen one:

Thanks again for the help!

I was digging around in old photos and as I got back 10 years I finally found the ones I meant to post in this thread.

I am constantly maintaining small reservoirs around new orchard trees. So on the back in a golf bag I carry a square shovel for building/restoring the levees, and also a slender 'planting' shovel for digging out blackberry roots. There's usually a bow saw back there for removing dead limbs. On the right loader pedestal I have another smaller golf bag to carry two chains and now, a long handle pruning lopper.

Back on the ROPS I have a small canvas shopping bag lashed onto each side. Water jug on the left, and I see I have a pruning saw in there for this picture.

Right side bag (not shown) is for hand pruners, gloves, plastic flagging tape, the sweater I take off as the day warms up.

Over on the little tractor I have a small bag hanging off each side of the fuel filler, thrift store junk of unknown original purpose. The one visible here says AAA and is insulated, I carry water and hand tools. A similar one on the opposite side has an inner and outer pocket. I carry pruning tools and 3-point clips there.

Finally in this picture I had a golf bag hung on the watering trailer. Presently I have a shovel carried in a hook at that location.

I haD that same red golf bag back when I played golf about 15 years ago.

Those backpacks don't put too much strain on your filler neck?;they look awfully full!

California the golf bag is a great idea!! I think I know what I'm gonna do.

Not very heavy. Much of the size visible in this photo is just thick insulation, that AAA / 3M bag must have been a 'lunch cooler' giveaway.

A 2-quart water jug (cranberry juice jug), seldom full, is 90% of whats in it. Otherwise just tiny 10mm wrenches for adjusting the 3-point lift/drop, maybe a short piece of rope. The smaller bag on the other side has pruning shears, pocketable pruning saw, flagging tape, 3-point clips, space for gloves.

The two bags pull equally, gently, from opposite sides. I'm not worried about harming the filler neck.

Rather than trying to build one, here is one we make that comes with all the hardware and mounts on the ROPS. Many people purchase the extra ammo can so boxes can be swapped according to the task at hand. Takes about 5 minutes to install the bracket and can be placed in almost any direction on the ROPS.
