There are grass clippings on the road and on the mower deck. The handles are together. I wouldn't be surprised if the idiot actually mowed with the kid on the mower.

Could be either way. I suspect it was mom that took the pic. If so, maybe dad just finished mowing and stopped and mom set the bassinet down on the mower deck while she took a double duty pic...one that would work for the ad and at the same time be a cute baby pic. If dad was mowing with the kid on the deck it would make more sense to have the baby facing him while he did. That (mowing with the kid on the deck) would definitely not the smartest thing to do by a long shot but never underestimate the intelligence of people.

...and how is that more dangerous than the widely acceptable practice of placing same baby on the back (or front) of a bicycle and riding into traffic?

With the old riding mower he towed the kid behind in a wagon pulled by a rope, but those zero turns can build some real velocity (think tubing behind a speed boat) and he could never finish mowing the lawn with all the stopping to go back and pick up the kid.
