Cummins owns Onan. According to the website, Onans are made in China and Cummins are made in USA
I looked and the only thing I could find was "Built in the USA".
Either way, I understand I'm arguing semantics here, but after dealing with manufacturers marketing departments, legally, it's unbelievable what you have to do to state "Made in the USA" on advertising from a manufacturer.
As mentioned, no nothing about how they build generators, but within the HVAC world, it's impossible for the manufacturer's to meet the guidelines set forth to use parts that are made in the USA as well (EVERY single HVAC unit you buy has X amount of parts from China or some other place).
I stopped associating with JCI (AKA York) some years ago, so perhaps things have changed on all the legalities. I do know one reason for the semantics so to speak is a lot of companies were claiming "made in the USA" even when they would import the equipment overseas, because Americans generally associated "made in the USA" with quality. That's why they at least used to have the "assembled in the USA" logo, and when you think about it, is no different than "built in America" with is different than "made in the USA".
On my end with work, sad to say, I don't always see that being the case. Next system I install in my own home (up in the attic) will have a Carrier name, but it is 100% made in China.
Ironically enough, Bosch equipment has grown on me on how they utilize a inverter compressor, but they are 100% made in China. As noted, Bosch bought JCI (AKA York) and I'm sincerely hoping Bosch can implement the quality control they have in China to the Wichita facility. By the same token, I'm also hoping JCI can improve Bosch's software that contractors have to use because Bosch's implementing of software 100% sucks. Go figure...
The same company who makes Bosch's wall mount air handlers is the exact same facility that makes Carriers wall mount air handlers, all made in China. Go figure as well.
