Hi all,

I'm new here, and have been lurking only a few days, but I have found a TON of useful information here.

I'm beginning to get a handle on the various iterations of Kubota SCUT models, but I would like help with two things. Could anyone direct me to a link, or give an explanation, to:

1. Which model years correspond to which model numbers, in the BX line? In other words, if you see a BX22, what would the model year range be for that model? I'd actually like to know this information for everything from the BX1500 on up.

2. Which models and years of the BX line had the "abrupt stop while reversing" issue? I know in the BXxx lines, anything ending in a "50" had the problem (and no offense to those who it doesn't bother, but it doesn't sound like something my back would enjoy, so I want to avoid those models/years).

But which of the BX (i.e., the TLB models) have this issue? What years? What model numbers?

(Oh--I may also post these questions in a similar forum, as I've found another great forum on the 'net, for these tractors--I hope the dual postings do not offend anyone, nor break any rules?)

Thank you all, in advance--the site looks GREAT and I plan to be around even after I'm an owner, as well.

Sincerely,

My Hoe

BX's with abrupt stop: BXxx50 = BX1850, Bx2350, & BX24 (TLB).

The lower the last two digits the older the model. From oldest to newest: BX22, BXxx00 than BX23, BXxx30 then the abrupt stopseries with the plastic hood and fenders BX24, BXxx50 and than the newest and current models BX25, BXxx60.

Hope that helps. Research forum many discussions on all of the models.

Welcome to TBN, MyHoe. One additional point, just as an FYI... the tractor companies generally don't use "model year" to indicate a change in the design of their products. Many tractors are manufactured as essentially the same model for years on end, even though there can be on-the-fly revisions of parts and systems. And, when a new model does come out, it's generally not tied to the calendar. I guess they never took up the "new, improved, 2011 model" idea like the car companies did

I have a 2010 BX2660 and it doesn't stop abruptly but it stops so slowly that I have to either step on the brake or the forward pedal to stop it when going backwards.

Tim,

Your model year synopsis definitely helps me--thank you!

Peter,

The Kubota Product Link you provided is VERY helpful--not to mention concise. Thanks!

Grandad4,

Thank you for the warm welcome! And I appreciate your clarifying how the tractor companies differ from the marketing practices of the auto mfrs. I'm a car guy (and actually worked in the business, in service) so you hit the nail on the head--I tend to see all things mechanical through an automotive lens--hence my confusion. I see I will have to make some adjustments in my thinking. The "on-the-fly revision" you refer to are a real headache in the auto-world (as you probably already know) and are called "mid-year change" or "running changes" and often one needs the SERIAL NUMBER to end up getting the right part. So, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, and will read accordingly.

Corey,

Interesting that you have the opposite problem from the "abrupt stop while reversing" issue. Having never even sat on a Kubota (though I have operated some construction equipment, and have lawn tractors, etc? I have noticed people suggesting that there is a zerk fitting that needs greasing, on certain Kubotas that have a treadle peddle (which I have never seen, or used, in person). Do you suppose your machine needs a linkage adjustment, or lubrication? I'm assuming you're still under warranty. I hope they can address that for you, as it seems annoying in its own right, but less so than the abrupt stop would be (my back would not like the quick-stop "feature" LOL).

I hope you get it resolved. For the price of these machines, it seems to me that you shouldn't have to deal with that. Good luck.

I'm sure I'll be back with many more questions, but for now, I just wanted to briefly say:

Thanks again, everyone--you've all been VERY helpful!

Peter

I traded my BX2350 to a BX2660. The 50 is abrupt and could be feathered out some what in low gear to make it not as abrupt which requires concentration which I'd lose when trying to get several hillside acres mowed in a reasonable amount of time.
The BX2660 did seem to coast on a bit more than my other BX's but with using it a couple of times it became very natural to not ever brake and use the foot pedal back to forward motion without any jerk. After using the BX2660 a couple of times I never noticed the run on. No choice for me of which one I preferred.

Yes there is a zerk fitting on the pedal (it's the only one on the whole tractor wich makes greasing a nice and easy chore.) the linkage can probably use an adjustment cause there are times where if I press on the forward pedal while stopped it won't press down (almost like there's a lock on it) I checked underneath and there is no obstruction so not too sure what it could be.

I will get a little run on lifting off of the reverse pedal when my 1860 is cold, but once fully warmed up it will come to a quick but not jarring stop. My front lawn requires a lot of direction changes due to obsticles and when I mowed with my BX1850 I had a back/neck ach after about an hour. Took the fun out of it, so I traded it out for an 1860 and just moved my loader and MMM over to the new machine. Was definately worth it for me. As they say, however, your milage may vary.
