which chain saw?

Heck after my experience Husky/Jonserad really rates tops for me.

I have a Jonserad that the crankshaft plain seperated where the clutch nut grips the crank.
The saw was about 10 yrs old and really has not worked much at all. (like I have merely gone through about 3-4 chains and still uses the origional bar).

I called customer service at Jonserad/Husky explaining that I was well out of warranty but thought they would like to hear about this.
As an aircraft liscenced mechanic (A&P) I know a bit about metalurgy and pointed out that it looked like a heat treating problem by the type of break.

The company gave me a FREE new C/S (on a 10yr old used saw!).

Now that's what I call customer satisfaction.

OK, I purchased a piston, rings bearings gaskets etc, but my saw is 'like new' now.

Beat that for PR!

When I searched for chainsaws, I read the Husqavarna was the number one seller in the world. Stihl is also a good saw, but with Husky being number one and lower priced, I thought I couldn't go wrong.

I don't cut allot of wood, mostly trimming types stuff. My saw can sit for years or run several days straight. After a few years, my Husky died on me. The service repair center said it had no compresion and would cost more to rebuild than to buy a new one.

I threw it away and started lookign again.

Echo sounds like a great saw from Japan. Highly rated, but just as pricey as the others. Poulan is considered a cheapy, but it's also allot cheaper. I have a Poulan tree trimming saw and it's never failed me, so I bought the Poulan Pro from Lowes for under $300 with the 20 inch bar.

I've run about 4 gallons of fuel through it and 9 chains. I get three sharpened at a time. So far it's been an awesome saw.

Stihl makes a great product. Take care of it, and it'll last the aveage homeowner a lifetime. The same is true of all the major saw brands. I've owned and loved Huskies for years but find blind brand loyalty to be frustrating at the very least, and counterproductive at the very worst.

( They work to support and hang on to good dealers. ) Husky on the other hand is starting to get into mass marketing... They're not available at WalMart yet but when they are, kiss the local dealer support goodbye. I'm watching closely as this may cause me to swtch to Stihl.

They are both good saws but I think overall Stihl are the better. I own a 026, 036 and 044.

Jamie, you couldn't own a better array of saws than those three. Man, you've hit a grand slam, tape-measure home run. Add a climbing saw to that trio, and you're in the tree business. Nicely done!

I've mentioned elsewhere that I have a friend who prefers the 044 to the 046/460. I've always liked the 460, but I've never owned an 044, which he thinks is the best saw Stihl ever made. Nice power-to-weight, lots of torque, great power curve. A lot like an Auto Union Type C! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (I showed your pictures to my friend today, and we had a blast talking about those cars. How did he put it? Something like, "those were the coolest cars ever made", and he's seen a few). Thanks again for sharing!

Hey John,
Speaking of climbing saws, are they also referred to as "limbing" saws? What saw do you recommend for a smaller climbing saw to compliment my MS310?
