Ken, your post has been a good lesson for me. Until your post, I'd never run across a JIC or a ORB quick coupler. Now I see these do exist! We only offer NPT couplers so you could say I've led a rather sheltered life, quick coupler wise. Thanks to you I've spread my wings.
Ditto goes for the discussion on thread sealers. Never paid much attention to them other than warning against Teflon tape (THAT much I knew!). So based on LD1's info I did a little digging and low and behold LD1 is right on the money with the Locktite 545. I came across a paper on the NOAA.gov site (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) talking about preventing hydraulic leaks.
They recommend an anaerobic thread sealer (like 545) but they advise against using Teflon as they view it as a lubricant filler rather than a thread sealer. The caution is due to possible contamination of the hydraulic fluid. For what its worth, I'm not sure if they are being overly cautious or not.
Finally, I am stumped about one thing. Your 8-orb female to JIC male. I cannot find this at all. Do you have a part number for this?
Andy
