My wife and I own 10 acres. Approximately 7 acres is a mixture of Alder sapplings and blackberries. The remaining 3 acres are horse pasture. I need a tractor for the following uses: clear 4 acres of blackberries to gain additional pasture area (including minor grading, ripping out blackberry roots, leveling, etc), manure spreading, grass seeding, post driving, and other misc. chores. The property varies in relief from flat to 15% grades. Which Kubota do you recommend? The local dealership recommended the BX series but those seem pretty small to me. I was thinking at least a B2410??? Thanks.

I think I would agree with that assessment. I have 10 acres and have done a lot of grading, dirt moving, rough cut mowing and some tree clearing with a B2410. I don't think I would want to have done all that with anything smaller. The size of the B2410 seems sufficient to be able to handle the work I need it too, but I think it will also be small enough to be able to handle nicely all the finish mowing I will have (once my lawn grows /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). If you don't have any size constraints for finish mowing or don't plan on doing much lawn work, then you may even want to step up to the B2710 or B2910. And be prepared....there are lots of nice L series models out there too that are likely to be recommended /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

BX: The BX will handle most of the specified chores. However, I'd guess that there would be a 90% chance that you'd quickly want a larger tractor.
B2910: This is the other end of the spectrum for the B-series. I'd guess that there is a 90% chance that you will be satisified with the size, a 5% chance that you'd think that you bought too big, and maybe a 5% chance that you'd want an even bigger tractor.
The B2410 / B2710 are in the middle of these two extremes.
Just my opinion, of course!

Thanks for everyones input. I think I've decided on the B2910 and have gotten several quotes - including Carver. The lowest quote I received was for $17,300 (not including tax) including FEL. This dealer is approx. 20 miles away and kind of sounded, well, dumb.
The next quote I received was for $17,800, the dealer seemed very helpful, they offer a free 1st service and 10% off all parts, accessories, and service. However, they are 35 miles away.
The third quote I received was for $18,000 not including anything. This dealer was also very nice/helpful and is only 5 miles away.
I realize that I can take the Kubota in for service wherever I want but would prefer to take it to who I bought it from. Any opinions? Is it worth it to spend $700 more to go through the closest dealer? How do the quotes sound? Thanks.

I don't know whether tractor prices are usually higher in Washington than in southern states, but here in Texas, those quotes are a bit high. I just bought a new 2910 with a FEL and 4-way valve for just under $16,200, not counting the box blade I got with it for just under $300 more.
On the dealer issue, I think most would agree that a good local dealer is tough to beat. Others will likely disagree on its importance.
Don't be afraid to push for a better price at the dealer you like the best. I shopped for several months and the "best price" slooowly went down. Maybe my experience is atypical though.

Hmmmm..... too many decisions. I really appreciate everyone's input. The local dealer finally got a B2910 in yesterday and I tried it out. It seems small. I'm used to renting the L3710 (that was the smallest the rental company had). The dealer also had a L3010 that he just put together.
Without having the tractors on MY property, it's hard saying if the B2910 will work or if I should go bigger. I have a feeling it will probably be just fine but I don't want to regret it. I know I can always hire someone with a dozer to do the heavy stuff and save the wear and tear on my machine.
The only problem I have with the L3010 is increased cost in implements, service, etc. because of its size.

I am amazed at how capable my 2910 is, but there is no doubt that a 3010 is a huge step up. Considering the fact that extra capability only comes at a price tag of less than $1000, it is definitely something to consider. I chose to stick with the b-series because maneuverability was an important issue in my rocky, brushy, hilly terrain.

Yes, in some cases. But keep in mind that the 3010 only has 2 more hp than the 3910. The primary benefit (as I see it) from the larger machine is improved loader capability and easier operation of ground-engaging implements. If you are primarilly using a rotary cutter to mow your acreage, you might not notice a difference.
Make sure you stick with hst!/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

After test driving the B2910 and the L3010, there was no comparison. My wife and I took the L3010 home. Yeah, the proud owners of a new Kubota!!! Finally!!!
