I am looking for a used Kubota (5-10 yrs old) that will satisfy the following needs:
-- Loader lifts at least 1800 lbs.
-- Hydrostatic or Reverser transmission
-- Greater than 40 hp
-- Price less than $13k
Any suggestions? It is hard to get info on older models that have been discontinued by Kubota.
Thank you.

John: can't realy give u any hard info, but go to kubota's home page and click on a series line and at the bottom of that page u will see a link that will take u to 'PRIOR PRODUCTS" u may be able to get some info there. also another site that might help u find a tractor(where ifound mine) is www.ironsolutions.com then click on search and just follow the selection options. at least gives u an idea of what is out there and the prices. good luck

JOHN,
you may have to lower you specifications. i don't know what the "M" series
will lift, but i doubt if it is 1800lbs. it is over 40hp, and i think it has a
shuttle shift, but i don't know how long they have made this model tractor.
when people buy a tractor like this, they will most likely keep it for many years.

All of the Grand L series tractors lift over 2200 lbs and come in all the transmission flavors, but I don't know anything about their history. When I was shopping for a used 30+hp Kubota, I couldn't find anything in the price range you mention. Doesn't mean you won't do better, but you may have to exercise a fair amount of patience to find that really good deal out there. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

We can't get down to the below $13K with a loader.
But do have some info here that meets the tractor goals.
Loader costs will range from used LA681 at $2950. and up to new at approx $3900.
In the long term... you may get a better value by shopping a little newer.

Lots of shopping tips at http://carverequipment.com/tips.htm

Good luck and happy shopping.
Merry Christmas,
Steve

Hey John:

It sounds like you're possibly looking for something a little more substantial than the grand L's.

For a few years there was a Kubota series of models at the top of the L line (they refer to them internallay as the L3 chassis). The models numbers were L3350 L3750 and L4150 from 1984 thru about 1990, and then there were 3 variants L4350, L4850 and L5450, up thu appprox 1996.

These tractors were roughly 800 pounds heavier than the newer Grand L's - everything is stronger, thicker, tubing is bigger, etc. Power was from 40 to 60 gross, 30-50 pto. They are very similar in size and weight to the present M4700, M4900, M5400 & M5700

The L4150 would be a good match for your requirements - of course if you want the best L ever made, the L5450 was the Rolls-Royce.

We're tapped into my favorite subject here - so I'll resist writing 3 pages. Contact me (rbjs@mediaone.net) if you'd like scanned or faxed brochures on any of these, or just to talk more about features.

Try a search at Traderonline (heavy equipment) for keyword kubota

Hi John, I gave up after a year of searching for a good used tractor. Everything seems to be 75 cents on the dollar even for 10 year old equipment. I bought a new B7500 and am happy that I did. Maybe you can do better. Good Luck.

Harv - Are you sure you weren't thinking of 3PH lift capacity? He was looking for Loader capacity. You don't top 1800# (at bucket center)until you get into an L4610 with LA852 loader.

Oops! Apparently I wasn't thinking at all! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I was looking at the Grand L specs, and yes, that's the 3pt capacity. The LA681 loader maxes out at 1499 pounds. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif It does have a breakout force of 2557 pounds. Can I save face with that? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

My bad. Call it a senior moment. Thanks for the correction, John. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hey Jethro - I've been looking at/for tractors for 30 years - and never given up. But it is true that good used machines are few and far between. Luck favors the prepared mind. Keep looking - I've found several great tractors as I've traded along up to what I have now.
