Which oil do you prefer for BX front. axle

The problem is that I never heard this before the fluid change, I am guessing the factory had 75w/90 fluid in there?

Not touching the gear oil versus SUDT debate. I'm suprised no one has asked this yet, what color oil did you drain out of the front axle? If darker, it was gear oil, if lighter in color, it would be SUDT. I would try and figure out what you had in the front axle from factory before you base your next decision on whether to switch to gear oil.

When I drained mine during service, it looked somewhat light in color. It looks pretty much like SUDT. I like to have a piece of mind like bp fick, use one oil for everything. I use kubota SUDT in my hydro tranny, the front axle and the homemade wood splitter. It helps to keep the amount of bottles with little left down to minimum in my garage and simplicity in my mind.

Interesting that when i drained mine it had gear lube in it. I do NOT know if the previuos owner had changed it or not. I do know the HST filter was still factory since it was painted so would guess the front axle had not been touched either.

What does the "factory" put in them? Mine is an 06 or 07.

I guess I am ok keeping the SUDT I did not look too close when I changed the oil, but if I had to go on the unmistakeable smell i would say it was gear oil in there from the factory. Thanks all for all your opinions! I was just concerned when I could seem to hear the front axle operating more since I changed to the thinner fluid. Thanks all

yup. gear oil stinks a lot more than SUDT, hard to confuse the two.

no way it came from the factory with gear oil though.

Not trying to be a smart butt on this question, if you don't keep gear oil on hand, what do you put in your 2 MMM's gear boxes? Just curious if you are using SUDT in them also?

Yep, with machines you do need several types of fluids and greases.

Along with mower is the tiller, brush hog etc all need gear oil.

I put Amsoils' Best Gear fluid in my front axle (BX24) , Mower deck and sweeper. Hence they are GEAR's and not a HYD app. Yes they have it but they make gear fluid for a reason. Look at the fluid props and there is a diff.

That's the point. Thus, it's probably a pointless discussion.
Most equipment guys have both on hand anyhow. Gotta. This isn't a simply your life kind of thing. It's like car oil, truck oil, tractor oil, 2 stroke oil, gotta have all those too. Different filters for everything too. The only way your gonna simplify your life is to sell all your stuff and move into a condo!!

The manual calls for either, so either it is.
