Great info fellas. I was dead set on using rotella in everything I own but then I heard the rumors that they were merging with quaker state /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Has anyone else heard that? Also there were a few claims on the web that mobil and chevron were out-performing rotella. I think they are all good but when you change oil two times a year in a hard working engine I want to use the best and forget about the rest. Whats an extra 20 bucks a year besides one less case of beer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Im not trying to bad mouth any brand . Just curious what everyons thoughts are. Have a good weekend and thanks for all the replies. Glenn

Glenn,

To tell you the truth, you're not gonna find the 'king of oils'. It's just not gonna happen, not in this lifetime. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to.

Use a 'major' brand, with a good reputation, not some oil that is sold by a 'traveling' salesman. Some of these oils that are sold by the 'traveling' salesman won't even give you a written warranty. They'll tell you their oil will meet or exceed brand x (insert your own tractor) but it won't be a written warranty.

Like I said, I use Rotella. Is that the best? I don't have a clue but I'm gonna use it.

Is Delo the best, could be. I'd bet good money you wouldn't go wrong using it.

I think you get my point here? Just don't dwell on it too much.

Just wondering how JD Plus 50 oil compares to the brands you guys are talking about. I've always used plus 50 in my JDs and I think it is a good oil. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I read some stats on JD Plus 50 somewhere but can't remember where. It was right up there with the others. I have it in my JD tractor right now (dealer gave me 6 quarts). I may use the JD again or the Rotella. I have a few more hours to decide. One thing about Rotella, I can buy it anywhere around here. The Plus 50 is about 30 minutes away.

I posted on JD 50 as agcomike before as it compared many different brands it was right at top. i'd about bet it's made by mobil or delo 400 since they didn't post eather of those agianst it but did post rotella.

JD Plus 50-------- Since JD does not refine their own oil I imagine it is relabled oil from someplace like Quacker Stale. J

Crows,

Dude - I hear you. People think I baby my stuff too much too. When they see me change my Gear Oil in my MX-Z Ski-Doo every year they think I am nuts. But... I ride the sucker harder than most - and that's a fact /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. My go-karts, motor cycles, tractors, generator, log splitter, mowers all get their fair share of work. But... I make sure they breath clean and are well lubed. I lube (grease fittings) every third use.

TresCrows,

What if it was relabeled MOBIL 1? Wow, what a thought, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Billy, I don't know or really care where JD or for that matter Kubota get their oil from. Whatever it is I imagine it is sufficient for the purpose and allows them a nice markup. That is why I figure it is a fairly cheap oil relabled so as to maximize profit. I could be wrong.
To answer the question, if it were relabled Mobil 1 then I would have to ask is it more or less expensive than Mobil 1 off the shelf? That would then decide for me which I would use but I seriously doubt it is Mobil 1. A pretty package does not a good oil make.
I was in Spangles last night for a shake after rocketing down a narrow road that actually has a curve in it. Oh, this is cool, Univ Kansas scientifically determined that a pancake was .955% flat and that Kansas was .9975 flat thus Kansas is "Flatter than a Pancake. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Anyways, the restarant has all that old memorbilia all along the walls and everwhere. Old car adds, Route 66 stuff and all sorts of old Filling Station stuff. I was sitting beneath an artfully arranged display of Shell X100 oil. It had a yellow can. Some more was in a red can. These where the paper cans /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. There was all kind of Marathon and Sinclair. Hey, does anyone remember Arco Graphite oil. It was pitch black, looked like tar--it was not on the market very long /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Oils come and go in fashion, since the mid 70's though there has been one King Of Oil, Mobil1. I bet 30 years from now when I am really for real an old man and I go to that restarant there will be cans of Rotella or Unitella or Armadilla or Quacker Stale Cracker veggie oil or what have ya but no cans of Mobil 1--why--cuz if there is still internal combustion engines in our vehicles the oil in them and for sale on the shelves at the future Wally World will be Mobil 1, of course, along with whatever "fashion" oils that might be in vogue /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif or being sold by the latest pyramid scheme /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.
