Which revolver/pistol?

Like the man said, Guns and Tractors.

Favorite weapon is an old 5 screw Smith and Wesson 357 magnum. Don't shoot it much anymore but get it out of the safe once in awhile just to feel that old time S&W action. Gun I carry the most is a Model 57 S&W that I bought in 1968 just before the GCA of 68. Its been shot a lot and is still nice and tight, kind of big for deep concealment but it works. Here in Montana you don't need a permit to carry concealed or otherwise if you are not inside an incorporated town (I don't think we have anyplace big enough to be called a city).

I've always been partial to S&W revolvers mainly because thats what I grew up with , but guns are kind of like tractor implements you are always one short but don't know which one it is. Have a good one.

DUHHH!

Even though I read the original title "Which Revolver/Pistol" I "shot my mouth off" and asked about who shot 6mm PPC (A rifle round! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif) Sorry to go off-topic /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif....

I used to shoot a lot when I was younger. Live in the wide open spaces, don't you know. I own quite a few guns, including pistols. Colt 1911, Ruger Security Six 357, Ruger Super Blackhawk 44, Browning 9mm, Makarov in 380, CZ 52 in 7.62X25, High Standard 22, and a Colt Trooper 22. The one I would fall back on. 1911 in .45 ACP. Big slow moving bullets make you forget about anything but seeking medical attention. The gun that I would go to for self protection. Winchester model 12 in 12 gauge. Double 0 buckshot. Works good on coyotes also.

I won't laugh at the Mak because my most-carried gun is a KelTec P32. There are "better" guns that stay in the safe (like the SA referenced below), particularly in hot weather when concealed carry is more difficult.

For targets, right now my favorite is a Buckmark 5.5 Target. Ruger MKII's are a close second.

Revolver favorites are made by Colt. Gotta love the snakes.

For 1911's Kimbers are tough to beat for target work. For carry I worked a Springfield Armory Compact Lightweight over to remove the sharp edges. Then it went to Robar for their NP3 finish. Great finish. It looks kinda like stainless but is warmer in hue. It shoots better than one would expect for a small gun. See attachment.

For out and out performance a Contender is pretty slick. With the .223 barrel it will shoot better than some rifles, and the .35Rem barrel is impressive.................chim

I was just trying to be humorous. In reality I am one of the bigger is better guys myself. If I were carrying a full sized auto I certainly wouldn't waste holster space in a 9mm if I had a choice. I was astounded when the military switched to 9mm. I thought we learned better in the Philippines. My first choice for a serious defensive round is the .45ACP. It is what I trained with, what I carried and what I shot combat pistol competition in the Army with.

I like the Mak because it is light, flat, reliable, looks good /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif, and lower penetration. A real consideration from a liability standpoint. And I am confident that I can put a couple of rounds in the right spot if it becomes necessary. I just hope it doesn't become necessary.

Self-loaders
.22 --Browning Buckmark
.32 ACP -- CZ51
.45 ACP -- Sig P245
Wheel guns
.22 -- Colt
.38 -- Taurus 2"
38-40 -- Colt Frontier (original)
357 - S&W
.44 Mag - Ruger

What it boils down to is all are fun. The good part is I have a pistol and rifle range on my property.

"Isn't there another way?"

Chopping them up with a shovel works, too. Shooting them is more fun.

Here is my other favorite plinker. A Daisy 717. I got this back in the early 80's when I was shooting on an Army team. We has some S&W Mod 41's with target grips almost identical to the grips on the Daisy and the Daisy had the same weight and feel as the Smith. I use to practice in my backyard with the daisy and lived in government quarters where I couldn't shoot a real gun.

Well since you asked... I like a Para Ordanance P12 .45 auto in the winter for serious social purposes (heavy coats and all), In the summer a Tangfoglio Compact 9mm serves the same purpose. On the tractor or for snaking, a S&W .44 revolver with a 3" barrel and snake shot works out just fine.Nothing trick about any of these except after market grips. Houge grips fit me like a glove. Someone on the other post mentioned the assistance of the new shirt tail out look, and that does help a lot.

Nice stuff.

My dad has a Colt 44-40 and a Marlin Lever 32-20 that I have been trying to get my hands on. But I have 3 other brothers, all closer, so my chances are slim. Hoping my status as oldest carries some weight, but I'm not holding my breath.
