Kubota B2920
Am buying a B2920 Kubota tractor with 30 HP motor and 23HP PTO. The dealer has a Model RTA1250 tiller (50 Inch) for $1895. Have found a King Kutter 48 inch XB model for $1340 at our Tractor Supply.
The Land Pride has 4 tines per flange and the KK has 6 tines per flange. The KK is a little heavier and has a limited catagory 1 hitch (whatever that means. Both have a slip clutch. KK is gear drive and LP is chain drive. Anyone familiar with this KK tiller for compact tractors. What are your thoughts

Hi Howard,

I have the 48" XB and have been happy with it and have had no issues or problems with it. I've only had it one season and don't do a lot of tilling, but it seems like a good unit for many years to come. My tractor is only 23hp, so didn't want anything larger - I am not familiar with the other so not able to help you in comparing....

Have you considered a tiller that will cover your "footprint", like a 60" tiller? You have enought PTO power. I have heard very few complaints about the KKII gear drive tillers except for paint and finish.

The KK you have chosen with the limited 3ph is the wrong one for your tractor. Limited 3ph is for height only. You could probably make it work, but why bother. Get the standard height model, it will work better with your tractor.

Land Pride or King Kutter? If you plan on tilling half an acre twice a year, get the king kutter. If there is a chance you will want to till the garden of everyone you know for the next 5 years to offset the cost, get the land pride.

we have a gear driven CCM tiller left on last years pricing,it is 72 inches, may be a lil big but horsepower wise you could pull it no problem

The XB series products were introduced for the subcompact tractors like the Kubota BX. The subcompacts have less ground clearance and have trouble with regular category 1 equipment in raising them high enough for transport. The xb series equipment is shorter to accommodate that. You can also see that the pins are turned inward as the arms on the 3 pt hitch of the subcompacts will sometimes not go out as far. I would wonder if the xb tiller will till as deep as the standard tiller. As others have mentioned, the King Kutter II seems to consistantly get good reviews. The same can not always be said of other King Kutter products.

Thanks for all the information. I now see what they are talking about on the limited catagory 1 hitch. The B2920 Kubota tractor does have a catagory 1 hitch for regular equipment. I finally called King Kutter company and was told that the 48 inch XB tiller was made for subcompacts and I should not use it on my Kubota B2920. They stated that I could even use the 60 inch KK that I already have without any problem but that seems a little large to me. I could go with their 4 ft. model but it is offset and would leave one tire print. I might just take one set of tines off my 5 ft. model and use it. Thanks again

Why not try it with all the tines first and see how it works.
I'm betting your tractor will handle it just fine.
My JD 850 ran a 60" KK II tiller just fine with only 22 HP at the PTO

Thanks, I will probably give it a try as I can always get a different one. I rechecked the specs on the B2920 Kubota and they gave 29 HP with only 21HP on the pto. KK says their 60 in. is for 25-40 HP and weighs 690 lbs. I just dont want to stretch the tractor to its limit. The Land Pride which I was looking at and cost way too much weighs in at 389 lbs. These new tractors cost a fortune compared to my old 60's model 3600 ford and I guess I am afraid of hurting it. Mostly got it for my son as I am 71 and sure dont farm as much as I used to. Thanks again.

I have had an XB 48" tiller for about 4 years now purchased from TSC. I have done some serious tilling with it and no issues as of yet. It is a chain drive with one grease zert on the opposite end as the chain drive.

The 2920 is only 48" wide so a 48" tiller will cover your footprint - no worries. The heavier the tiller the less it will bounce on hard ground. The type of soil where you live might be a factor when considering the weight of the tiller.

BTW I pull mine with a B7510 21 engine hp and 17 pto hp. I think the 2920 was a great choice of tractor.
