Hello DHwalker,I would go for the 45hp tractor. The extra power and weight mean you can do more. As you gain experience you will find you do more and more. I have never heard anyone complain of to much power. Also the dealer has just done work on the tractor, a plus from my point of view. As an ex farmer, it is a kubota, expect 10,000 hrs before major work. Just do services by the manual
I have cut hundreds of acres over the years, with drum and disc mowers. There are 3 things that dictate how hard the grass is to cut :
1) how sharp are your cutter blades?
2) grass gone to seed is harder cutting than young leafy grass. (with hay you want green seedhead stage or you knock the seed out of the head)
3) has the grass been flattened by wind and rain?
