I currently have a 2007 JD 4520 ehydro OS with FEL that I have been using for maintaining 10 acres around my home. Mainly bush hogging, loader work, grading driveway etc. I recently purchased the adjacent 100 acres next to my house and I'm looking at upgrading to a cabbed tractor. It mainly consists of woods but it has several 30 food wide paths that will have to be maintained as well as a five acre field that I plan to keep planted year round for wildlife. That will be the main uses for my tractor other than loader work, some clearing, additional food plots etc. I like the hydrostatic drive of the 4720 but I'm also thinking it may be good to go up in size to one of the 5000 series machines. I will be doing a lot more loader work and pulling a disc. Thinking that the M series might be a little bit overkill but worried that the E series machine will not be as nice as what I already have other than a cab. Please chime in guys. I would like to make a decision soon and need some input. Thanks in advance!

Dealer in Indiana here. I would stick with the E. The money (20Kmore) you spend on the M has to really pay for itself. I sell Ms for guys running large batwings, or guys with a lot of hillsides. Biggest advantage of the M is the lower center of gravity due to the center drop frame. For what youre doing, save your money, stickmwith a E. I would look at the 5085 if you want a cab. The cab robs a lot of hp and the 85 has a better cab layout. PM me for a quote

Thanks for all of the responses guys! I have narrowed it down to a 5075e or a 5085e. Pros and cons for both. i like the power and larger size of the 85 but I think the 75 would be more trailer friendly if I need to carry it over to the hunting club about 30 miles away. Anyone on here own either of these tractors? I would like all the feedback that I can get. Money is not really a factor. get a 2013 or order a 2014? Any changes? Thanks!

I had a real hard time finding feedback on the new 5085e, just to new. There is one guy on here that has one, but haven't heard from him. I ordered a 2014, never been a big fan of buying anything the first year out. Let's hope that if they had any minor issues it has been fixed in 14 model run. I also have to move my tractor. In the winter it will be at home and during growing season it will be 100 miles away at the farm. It's only twice a year and we have equipment trailer so shouldn't be a big deal. 3 month wait for 85e, should have it first part of February. If you look up 83e you can find tons of info on those, 85 is the replacement model.

Arlen, Which model is the one that that tank starts on fire?

been looking very strongly at a 5055E and although I have not seen one in person yet, it apears that the fuel tank is under the cab on the left hand side of the tractor behind the steps to the cab. I cannot think of any reason a fuel tank could be melting in this location. The tractor is available with a horizontal exhaust, could that be the problem or was there an earlier E version that has been redesigned for the 2014 model year that moved the fuel tank to correct this issue? The 5055 seems to fit all my requirements. I don't need a lot of horsepower. going to the 5065 or the 5075 gains horsepower and no more. same loader and same overall tractor weight based on the specs I got from the dealer. Going up to the 5085 and larger gets you more horsepower, additional available loaders and about 1700lbs more overall weight.

The tank wasn't melting because of exhaust heat, what seems to be happening is a hydraulic valve or the rock shaft bypasses fluid until the transmission and hydraulic oil gets so hot that the fuel tank melts.
I can think of 2 or 3 guys that this has happened to...and it seems to have happened to them multiple times. Definitely not happening in any kind of widespread numbers, but something is going on.

50k for a tractor with 12 speeds, no creeper gear, no hydraulic hi-lo and 540 only pto? Hope you don't do much mowing, haying, baling, plowing, discing etc. You won't be happy if you do.

I agree, some of those features would be great, Just cost you about 10k more. I love of the features of the LS, just couldn't get past the looks and lack of weight.

When I was shopping, I was looking at the 5075e and that tractor weighs 1000 lb less than the LS and it cost 10k more than the LS. If you have to own Green so be it.

IMHO regardless of brand, only 12 forward speeds on a 50k tractor is absurd with no ability to upgrade. If you are not doing ground engagement work, mowing, bailing etc than it might be ok. If it had a 540/750/1000 pto you could make up for some of the lack in gearing, but it doesn't.

I would make sure before laying down your hard earned cash the tractor will do what you want, that's all.

And I think my LS isn't that Ugly! :)

I think your LS compares more to the JD 5085. I agree compared to the JD 5075, The LS is far superior. Step up to the 85e and your in a completely different tractor. The e-series has enconmy 540/540 and you can get 1000 pto. When moving heavy loads(loader work) or pulling heavy equipment you will appreciate the extra 1300 pounds. Also the hydrulic output is much better on the 85e. Not taking anything away from your tractor, Its one **** of a tractor for the money. I dont have any LS dealers close to me, that was also a big factor of over looking them. Love the pictures, I think it its growing on me. Its those **** front headlight I cant get over. lol

Calhoun, I didn't realize you had already ordered your tractor and I'm sure it will be great for you. I just wanted to make sure BlakeEatmon was sure that 12x12 transmission fit his needs also.

After I win the $568 million tonight I'm buying a big John Deere with all the options. Heck, I might get a few! Don't anybody go out and waste their money on buying a Mega-Million ticket, I already bought the winner!
