Which type of quick disconnect couplers to use?

Rather than mess with snap rings we have found it a lot easier just to use a bulkhead fitting to mount a quick disconnect fitting.

Just a little story for your info. We had some of the poppet style connectors used on a small hydraulic unit at work that was disconnected quite regularly for one reason or another. Probably a couple times a year they would slowly drop the flow and at certain point stop the flow in the lines due to the point wearing off the poppet and acting like a check valve. Not sure for the reason but "I" suspect that it is because of the high usage and the small contact area that is repeatedly used. We switched to a ball type just out of curiousity and they have lasted longer so far (thats to say none have failed yet, its only been eight months or so yet). "My" line of thinking is that with the ball type, the contact area keeps changing on the ball where the poppet style is always contacting the same spot, as that spot wears off the flow rate will decrease with the amount of wear that occurs. I use the pioneer style but only because they seem to be more readily available than the poppet style.

Just a point about using the snap rings. When you hook up the hoses, you just push it in. That's right just shove them in. If you forget to disconnect them, they will disconnect themselves.

Jerry that would be because the snap rings fasten to the sliding collar instead of the quick connect body itself. Good point my friend. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Slid out to the tractor.
Checked the quick couplers that I have. I took a picture. See attachment.
Left coupler is the poppet type. It fits the 402 FEL. Right one is same type as sold at TSC.
Neither will fit the other.
Now I'm real confused. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Anyone know the difference?

I suspect the right set is ISOA while those on the left ISOB. You can see a difference in the side profile on the male couplers. I'll bet the set on the right also cost twice as much.

Ron,

The ones I ordered were apparently made by the same manufacturer and had the same part number except the last letter which was a P for poppet or a B for ball. I think the brand was Parker.

That is probably why they are interchangable.

Never tried to understand the multiple standards for these things. I think if they are made to the same standard they are interchangable, but if are made to different standards like PineRidge suggests, they probably are not...

The ones on the right are the standard agri type that are used on most farm tractors and farm equipment.

Right set was $9.99 for set.. Left set was $5.50 each. Left set was purchased at a discount local suppiler. If I had purchased them at the dealer they would have been over $20.00.
I'm changing all 10 of my remotes to left type. They do not leak when not connected.
