Which type of sealant for hydraulic connection?

I've been very happy with loctite 545. No fuss, no mess. A bit expensive, but works on air, water and hydraulics.

The 545 is the purple stuff I was refering to in my post. I perfer the PTFE paste. It always seems that the 545 sets up like a thread locker as well as a sealer, and makes removal a bit more difficult. But it does work well.

The 545 does set up and make taking apart harder. My goal is not to remove them once assembled, or if I needed to I'd use a different fitting.

The best is a PTFE paste, not regular pipe dope from Home Cheapot...And stay away from tape.

Loctite and Permatex both have it.

Whenever I have used PTFE paste, it will leak if I don't let the paste dry overnight before I use the hydraulics. If I use the paste and immediately use the hydraulics, it always seems to leak slightly and will never stop leaking.

I use teflon tape. I leave the starting few threads devoid of tape. It allows me to use the hydraulics immediately. Been using the tape for nearly 20 years.
