Which type, then brand of framing nailer?

Well I'll still probably keep an eye out for a Hitachi nailer but the shed plans are now locating it about 50 yards further from power so we will probably go with screws and cordless screwdrivers. Thanks for all the responses.

Hand nail it. Buy a Vaughn Blue max framing hammer with hatchet handle and don't look back.

The 20 V Max nail gun is designed with two springs that are made to be changed quickly in the field and are very inexpensive to purchase. The springs will fire around 20,000 nails Per spring set with abusive use and many more with normal use. The first time mine broke I called the DeWalt service line and had a callback from the actual engineer that designed the tool within two minutes.

Also this nail gun shoots many different brands of nails as long as they are the correct degree of angle. So finding A good selection of affordable nails is not a problem. If you do purchase one get the one with the 2 speed selector and has the bump fire option

I have a Bostitch and has done well,

I just bought a used Bostitch F28ww yesterday so I have 2. That way when assembling the walls on my new building, I dont have to change back and forth from 3"+ nails for the framing and the 2" ones for the OSB

What the hey? Did you somehow give that list to my wife? I've got the same projects handed to me minus the shed. :) . I do have porter cable nailers and they have performed very well for me.

That's because the wives have there own Forum, where they secretly discuss ways to manipulate you, and have you think it was your own idea.

Full head nail, air powered that is comfortable with good reviews. As mentioned, make sure the nails are commonly sold. I have a 10 year old Porter Cable that was a refurb unit. FR350, not sure what the last letter on it is though. I think it's the lightweight one. Way good enough for the homeowner/casual user and the price was right. I don't recall ever having a jam and it always works when I pull it out of the box. I bought it when my house was being built, way to tiring manually nailing overhead. I have the little compressor below which powers it easily and can run on a Honda EU2000 gen. My gun came with the auto trigger which can be switched with the one shot per pull trigger. In my opinion the one shot is better for the casual user and PC supplied it for free, it's still really fast to use. I also have a PC air crown stapler and finish nailer. I like them all for comfort and weight.

This goes on sale for $100 at times.

I also have a Porter Cable FR350 round head framing nailer...works just fine.

Waiting on Milwaukee to come out with some 18V cordless nailers now :D

Paslode cordless without question is my choice. I'm on my second one after about a million nails (yes I did the math) thru the first one. Looked at one of the DeWalt 20v and it seems much bigger and heavier.

The only time I find air to be an advantage is nailing sheeting during production framing. Other than that, its not worth dragging a compressor around.

I also repeat the comments about locally available nails is priority.

Haven't read much on the dewalts. How do they actually sink the nail? Totally different than the ones that use a gas cartridge. All the battery does is provide a little spark. So how's battery life on the dewalt vs cartridge life on others.

And with a motor and whatever drives the nails, how's durability and longevity compare?

Everybody has a favorite and theirs are all good, 'til they breakdown.

The repair shops and the rental industry is where you learn the truth as they live in the real world.
Rental equipment is the most abused and has the shortest lifespan.
I've walked in some shops and see a dozen Hitachi nail guns on the shelf ready to go but in the back store a bunch of 'other brands' waiting for parts.
Knew of one shop that admitted that some rental air tools needed a repair at every 3-4 outing but never a Hitachi.

And NO, I do not work for Hitachi but have repaired a lot of tools for a shop friend (as a hobby)
I could list many NO-NO's but prefer to only recommend the good or better ones.
