Which Utility Tractor? (long post)

OK I see where what you are saying.
The 3PH spec's for the M8200 were only 1435. Must be a misprint.

I would go with the TN75 if it was between it and the 6800. I looked at those a couple years back and was impressed with them. I went with a Deere 5420 because it was cheaper and there was no comparison with the cab.

I would hire someone with a dozer to clear the trash trees and large unwanted items and then buy the tractor you like best.

I agree with keeping the 3600 Ford I wish I had two tractors one that I could just mow with. Looks like your using your head and doing your studies. Good luck.

Is it that hard on a tractor to do basic brush clearing??? I’m not to worried about the trees/stumps right now. I can always remove the stumps that I need to by hand!?! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I’ll be keeping the 3600 for at least another 4-6 years to do basic mowing, raking, etc. After that I’d like to get something my wife could easily handle.

The river is not that big of a problem. The river is about 40yds wide, but the way the crossing is setup you drive about 80yds in the water. The bottom is not soft, but not real hard either (sort of a mixture of sand and rocks the size of a baseball to football). Every now and then the current owner will take a Ford 8N over.

I’m a little leery of “off brands”, companies I’ve never heard of or seen local to me (Kioti, Mahindra, etc.) I’m not saying they are bad, just I’ve never seen one on a farm or lot. Probably 80% of the tractors around me are either Ford/NH or Massey Ferguson with John Deere in third.

IT WAS CHEAPER???????? I priced a used 2003 JD 5320 w/ FEL and it was only a $1000 cheaper than a new NH TN75A w/ FEL!?!?! A new JD 5320 was going to be about $2-3K more. I'm looking at spending less than $32K. If I could get a JD 5420 around that price I would definitely consider it!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With a cab I only paid $34,500 for my 5420. I will see what a new 5420 would cost.

I could get a base 5420 with dual rear scv's and mfwd for $26,989. The base 542 loader would be $3750 with standard bucket.

Lotsa good suggestions. One thing slipped by me in all this:

get 2-3 horses & maybe 5-10 head of cattle. The bottoms will more than likely be put into square bales for the horses and cattle and sell any remaining.

How do you justify setting up for haying in this setup. I mean, I am sure it is fun, but with all the equipment and labor costs; isn't it pretty reasonable just to have it delivered? I know each of us has to decide these things for himself, and it may well be worth your while. But it sure is a good idea to lay out all the costs and see what your return is.

Both the JD 5420 and NH TN75 are awesome machines... I'll take one of each, please!

If I could get a price like that I'd come real close to going green. I don't think my local JD dealer with even come close to that!

I get the same thing with the New Holland and kubota dealers. I tryed to buy a New Holland a couple months ago and couldn't even get a $1 off of list. If you're close to Iowa it might be worth a trip for you. But if you can get a comparable deal, 23-25% off list, there on a New Holland that is a nice tractor too.
