I completely concur with this statement. The only time a limited slip or locked diff will help a lot is if the vehicle is off camber, or if there is a traction differential between left and right side. I vote that in most surfaces, the open front R1's will out traction the limited slip R4's.

Agreed, but he did prove his point to a certain degree that the modifications to his factory cage did strengthen it quite a bit... The wheelie and pulling the H3 off the sand pile did no damage to the cage.


Does any SCUT or CUT tractors come with locking front diffs. ?

Is a locking front diff. available for my tractor???

I would be surprized if any of the small machines have them. A locked front diff would be subject to a great deal of internal stress when turning, not to mention the slippage between the tires and whatever happens to be beneath them at the time.

A limited slip front diff would still be very hard on things, but not as much as a truly locked one.

They used to be available on some early 4x4 trucks and SUV forerunners, but they were very tricky to control when the torque switched sides during transits over variable surfaces. I think some serious offroaders have installed them for swamp and mudrunning, but they are not, to my knowledge, available from anyone as a factory item.

Selectable front diff lockers are a factory option on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon edition. They were also a factory option on mid 90's Toyota FJ80 series Landcruisers. And you're right, turning is a bugger with the front locked in.

They're also standard on Unimogs and Pinzgauers, but that's a whole different world.

Heck yeah. The Kubota M6800,8200, 9000 and the newer 7040, 8040 9040 have them. They are "automatic" limited slip. The Kioti DK65 even has one that locks the front diff with a pedal.

In my world, they are small machines. Maybe they're big to you guys....

I've installed ARB front lockers in some of my 4x4 trucks I've had in the past. Gotta be careful with them.
