I know this about TYM, but I want input from everyone about which size you would choose - just ignore the brand. The T474 and the T494 have the same engine and HP, but the 494 is a larger chassis tractor. Despite what Hank says about the lifting capacity, the 494 does have a greater lift capacity. I was thinking 494 because of the being able to use that HP better due to the 494 being about 600 lbs. heavier. heavier. Seems like the HP would go to waste on the 474. There is about 2K price difference.

Weight is your friend. Go with the heavier unit.

I don't know what you plan to do with the tractor but generally the larger tractor can do more work. The only exception I can think of would be if you want a belly mower and it's an option on the smaller tractor but not the larger. You have to consider your specific needs.

I didn't look into dimensions between the two machines, but it would not be hard to add 600lbs to the lighter one... For a lot less than $2k. The other factors that I would consider are width, and ground clearance.
I went with a larger tractor than I really needed for the weight and width, which generally increase in larger chassis machines.

I would go with the 494. Heavier chassis, more ground clearance, better lift capacities on FEL and 3 pt.

No brainer.

Get the FEL, and the cab, and the hst trans.

It's fun spending other peoples money.

The 494 is a little over 9 inches wider, but it also has larger tires so some of the width increases comes from that.

I know what you mean - just having a hard time deciding. I can think reasons for and against both tractors - lol.

Take them for a test ride I went with the l47 TLB because it was in the middle....not to small not to big... Take your time you don't want two tractors do you....

Depends on what you plan to use the tractor for... For me, buying less HP has not been a problem, I used my tractor for fun. Saved money to spend on every implement imaginable. Implements = work you can get done. Buying used means saving even more - Plus learning to weld to fix everything has been great.

BUT... if I was to try and make money for a business. Less HP would be somewhat limited.

Tire size and tractor width have always been important in our tractors for clearance and stability. There haven't been many times that I can remember HP being a limiting factor for our work - which is more like rough country landscaping than level land Agriculture. But the increased ability & stability from larger wider tires is something we appreciate every day.

Frame size is something you will have to decide for yourself. I went through the same questions when choosing between a NX4510 and CK 4010 Kioti (The DK wasn’t available with a hydrostatic transmission at the time).

I really liked the higher weight and power and, especially, the larger cab of the NX, but the smaller CK series seemed easier to fit in the available space for snowblowing around the house, and took up less valuable storage space in the garage, plus, there was a significant price advantage. And less weight for more capability working on soft, wet lakefront areas.

The smaller more agile tractor won out, but it ended up being rather ineffective working near the lake, and sort of marginal for any dirt work. I ended up buying a CTL for that work, an expensive solution, but I think it was the correct decision in my case.

Larger tractor, larger tires, more weight should ride better if that is of value. Also more stable for fel or heavy rear loads. If working in tight spaces those same things could hurt you.

most all has been said for weight and the positives, i will go this direction, the rare and ONLY time i have wanted lighter is working in/around my yard, w/out exception i get the biggest machine acceptable for any given task.

For some reason I really like that portion of your comment.
Kudos
Enjoy and be save.

To the OP, just get the largest machine you can afford without disrupting too much your budget, make sure you have resources to acquire all must have implements.
