Builder you know you want the M4900:D , so get that sucker. There's a large tree removal company right down the road, and that's all they use is M4900's, I think they have three and one MX5000. They are all well used and we're talking large amounts of hard wood and timber. I asked one of the forman at the gas station about a month ago, how do they hold up, he replied "they are the only one that will". For what it's worth...Clay

Clay, you're soooo right. It's the one I want, now i just need some more $$$. You know how it is, there's never enough $$$ for the stuff we need for work.

The endorsement of the M4900 really means a lot. That's great feedback! ;)

Bob,

I TOTALLY disagree that the under 50 hp line is not JD's focus. I think they do a great job with their compacts. I have owned now five of them myself and have not had a bad one yet. They offer features that are not seen in many (or any) other makes. I am not dissuading one from looking at Kubota, they have been doing solid compacts for a long time, but I take some issue with the thought that JD line of compacts is somehow an afterthought. JD knows many tractor users use the compacts and they sell a lot of them. Even my dealer, who is a big ag dealer that sells quite a number of larger machines, says the compact JD's make up a large portion of his yearly sales. I think Roy answered the question about "rebadging" well. JD compacts are for the vast part NOT rebadged machines. My tractor has only a Yanmar engine, with the rest of the tractor made/assembled in Augusta, GA. If anything, over recent years JD has moved the manufacture of many of its models to that facility. The example of the Yanmar made JD's would be the "90" series which are solid, powerful, simple machines that have been made by Yanmar for JD. These machines have been popular and high-margin sellers for JD, so I doubt they say a reason to change them or their point of origin. I would say that JD makes great compacts, just as Kubota deserves more credit for it larger machines.
