Ok, needing some opinions here...

I am interested in knowing which Yanmar model ya'll recommend would be the best for finish mowing about 7 acres (with a fairly amount of obstacles), building and maintaining a 50x100 garden spot, maintaining a fairly long gravel driveway, maybe getting a couple oak trees out the woods once a year for firewood, and bush hogging a tall 8 acre pasture ONCE A YEAR (that I make money on).

Not looking for an over sized tractor, nor do I want one that's too under powered.

I'm thinking about making some changes (financially) and this is where I need to start.

I currenty have a Massey Ferguson 231 tractor (that I love) BUT... It's a utility tractor and I ONLY PUT about 100 hours on it per year. I think this year I put 106 hours on it. This tractor is made for a LOT more than what I use it for...

I also have a '09 Hustler Super Z mower (that I also love) with a 60" deck. It's only got about 70 hours on it.

Something has to go!!! I guess, in a way, I might could say that I have too many 'toys' (??)

Any recommendations or advice for me?

Thanks,
Travis R

Here is an opinion. If it is based on finances I say sell the z mower, purchase a 6' finish mower, keep the Massey and your good to go. I don't see how your Massey is that much over sized. I don't see how selling your Massey and buying a Yanmar is going to pad your pocket that much. Good luck with whatever you decide.

i agree with winston, but unless that Z is fairly new or a super high dollar one it wont bring much to offset the purchase of a decent finish mower enen used. Now it cuts down on maintence but thats prolly it. He could sell both and look for a Deal YM 2000 for about $2K-$2.5K and pocket several grand after purchase and a finish mower though. My vote would be any of the 2000s or 240 or 2001 2010 etc series they are 24 hp and plenty of power to do what you want, maybe take longer but still get it done and are fairly common for parts and they are still not the expensive. I bushhog 6-7 acres twice a year on my place and plow up an acre or more for food plots once or twice a year. I dont finish mow with it yet as i have not fixed up my uncles mower he told me i could use.

I would try to find a YM2000BD, 4wd, top of the line 2000. Has 0000.0 hour meter, no doubt about hours, usually well under 1,000, best model for parts and uses most all YM240 parts. Most YM240's for sale are worn out, high hour machines. (Fixed)

By 1000 he means hours not dollars, just to be clear.

Yep, better fix that, it's there forever;). I was just working on the odometer on my van.

I cut alot more than what tasks you are discribing. My Ym2000 and FM. would do it easily. But when some Real good friends moved to a even larger Property we went with Ym2500. One of those deals you can't pass up  The 3cyl. has more Hp. but nowhere near the Torque of the 2000. The big plus is they are both JD. US. models. Only difference is the PTO setups and throttle. The 2500 is the JD.850 I believe but still prefer the 2000/240. And I'm not including the BA.5103 duties :p

I believe I would keep the MF., sell the Z mower, buy a used finish mower. yanmars are toys compared to that 231.

I agree with most of the replies, but the MF can not get into places where the z does. I'm having to cut around 3 houses, and 2 are in a 'subdivision'. I really would hate to part with either pieces of equipment...

does anyone know about a Yanmar F165D is that a good one?

It has a bulldog bucket. is that ok?

They all start out good; however, Bulldog loaders are normally used by Vietnam reconditioners.

I don't know much about a ym165D except it is a sold in America tractor. Interesting that it has a Bulldog loader. They generally come on VN tractors. I have a Bulldog 285 loader, have used in heavily with no problems at all.

That's a F165D gray market.

It's about 19 hp, and probably very poor parts support. Newer model and very few around. no idea on how much hp you need; however 24 hp seems to be a good #.
