am sick and tired of cutting the 3.5 acres out back with the 42 inch sears garden tractor , because you essentially have to go over it twice because it pushes the grass down instead of cutting it . I know if I were to open up the front of the deck with a torch and have the blades make first contact , instead of the deck it would cut fine , except the blades would also make first contact with ant hills and stobs too , and then the woosy mandrels will break . and the lightweight deck would probably collapse . Whats the use of having 20 plus HP driving the blades when the **** thing just rolls over the high grass . Durn sure don't need all that HP to cut a couple of days growth lawn .

Would like to be able to cut in one pass without resorting to the six ft single blade cutter behind my Kubota 3200 .
Any one got a zero turn that cuts , instead of rolling over ?
Thanks

Knee-high grass? I don't know about knee high, but a rotary cutter with a 12" high steel deck will cut waist-high grass.

For grass that tall you need a rotary cutter. It is too tall for a finsihing mower to do a good job. If you had a good ZTR it would be way faster than your current machine and you may mow more frequently.

guess my bottom line question is how you want your plot to look. it seems as if you don't want to cut it that often to have a finished lawn look. so....follow the advice already given get a rotary & why look at a zero turns? i have areas on my acreage that i use 2 different types of zero turns, (walk behind & rider types) for the finished look...on the remaining open areas & hay fields, i use conventional rotary tractor mowers. from your description, you really can't have it all in one mower. but maybe i'm wrong (it occasionally happens) :drink:.

Kubota has what you are looking for with a front mount mower and 40 HP but you are looking at a staggering 40,000.00 for the unit with 100" mower. You need to mow a lot more often before the grass gets that high or get some goats.

The OP has big tractor with 4WD. What he is describing, from what I can tell, is something that needs to be cut with a brushhog. A 0 turn isn't going to cut it unless he mows every week or 2. 0 turns are not meant to cut tough tall grass like that. get a rotary cutter for your L, which will cost less that a good zero turn, hook it up, and in a few hours a few times a year, the thing will be cut. The L can handle rough terrain, and a few rocks, be careful while driving, and it will take care of that field for a few months. Z-turns are meant for finished lawns, not knee high grass.
