Get a Mr Funnel and never look back. That will take out everything water included. They’re a bit slow and awkward to use but nothing gets through

Same dang thing happened to me a few days ago on my R3039. I’m just gonna leave it in there. Shouldn’t hurt a thing.

Mine on my smaller one is about to do same. It is visibly deteriorated at ~60ish hrs on the machine. Never jammed a fuel nozzle in it or had a "save the planet by spilling diesel everywhere" spout poke it from a slip. Mine really looks like the plastic/nylon it's made from is just getting eaten up from being exposed to fuel!
Need to find a replacement but hate to order an OEM part if it will have same issue in short order. Dislike the idea of running without - newish fuel cans and I already notice a little crud settled in bottom. No idea how that gets in there - I buy fuel from local gas station from auto diesel pump, keep in sealed 5 gal cans, and never place the spout or cap directly on ground. Kind of careful with every step of the fuel transfer process, but still have crud.
Just 2 weeks ago went thru PIA process of dumping two 5 gal cans of new diesel into empty clean cans thru a 120 mesh paint strainer because I could see some crud inside the cans....

If the "lost" strainer was anything like the one I had on my JD G100 riding mower - it would be good for stopping 3/4" gravel and bigger stuff. About two months into ownership, I jerked the little plastic strainer out and trashed it.
Just went out and checked my strainer. Fairly wimpy and cheap but it has a fairly fine mesh. I do think I will get a Mr Funnel with the water-block feature. Can't be too fussy when it comes to keeping your fuel clean.

Those range for $18 - $55 on amazon. Is there a difference other than flow rate? Since I'm on 5 gal cans with enviro-spouts, the smaller 3.5 gpm is probably sufficient?

I ordered one from Amazon. I'd much rather fool with that filling than filtering fuel cans with a paint strainer again.... And then can just remove the white plastic oem screen before it completely fails and goes in the tank.....

Have you see the EZ-Pour nozzles? I’ve converted 3 of the enviro-spout cans and they’re awesome! They even have a high flow version that I use on my mower gas can.
