As I rounded the turn into Cowans Gap this afternoon there was a flock of wild turkeys along the road. One of them was white. Not albino -- it had the same shading and marking as the others -- but it was decidedly white. Has anyone else seen one of these? Is it a real rarity, a freak of nature, et al?

They’re fairly rare, just a genetic mutation. A lot of people call them “smoke” phase, because of the smoky coloring the grey tips give them. I’ve only seen one, and a couple that had white wing feathers.
