Who can afford a new truck anymore?

My new 2500 hasn't seen anything heavier than groceries :) As suggested above, it's primarily just a nice ride. I'll use it for real work if/when I have to but, for now, it mostly sits in the garage.

I just bought a new 2014 Ford F-150. And I sold my last truck, a Dodge Dakota that I bought new in 1993. I figure I can afford a new one every 20-25 years. Next one will be when I'm 83.

You are smart to get it, now conserve it, when it goes, you won't be able buy one for five times the money. HS

I just bought a 2013 Silverado w/16,500, $30K, may be the last one I buy! Got $10K out of the '06 w/116K miles (low end of Blue Book on it).

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 with 115,000K on it......we use it primarily for pulling our trailer. I figure we have another 10 to 12 years from her......I hope that is the case anyways. My wife drives a 2000 Mercedes ML320.......it has about 117,000 on it......great SUV.......plan on at least 200,000 from that car. My buzz around car is a 85 Honda Civic........that little beauty has 75,000 original miles......like new except the 50 lbs of dog hair in the back seat.......the kids go everywhere with me!

Had the oil changed in my 2011 ram 1500 reg cab, 8' bed tradesman a couple weeks ago, and was looking at the new trucks on the lot. the cheapest one was $42K and the most expensive was $84k Maybe at that price you are supposed to live in it.

I never buy new vehicles...and I flat out refuse to spend more then I paid for my first house ($57000 in 1987) for a new truck.

Sounds reasonable, but I just paid $13,950 for our first house in 1968 (10 year old house), and $25,500 for a brand new house in 1972, and $42,500 for another bigger brand new house in 1977.

Bought my first car (58 chevy) for $150. Drove it for over a year.....sold it for $300.....thought I was making a fortune! Nowadays.....kids pay more for their tennis shoes than I paid for my first car.........times have changed!

We used to hear of the rich buying cars for over $100K. Now fancy loaded up pickups are getting near that. Crazy. Can't see throwing 2500 lbs of concrete sacks in the back of a $84K truck like I do with mine.

I've got a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD that I bought new. It has 129000 miles. I thought about a new truck until I checked out the prices. Same truck today would be 10-15000 more than I paid then. It's cheaper to just fix it and drive it.
I just put a new throttle body in it myself, and had 4 new tires put on. - Got a scan tool and used that to give me the error codes. Easier than I thought it would be. A new truck would be nice, but it is not cost effective.
