Day Pass to Disney World: $3.50 forty years ago when it opened. $105 today.

That's a bargain. It should realistically be $112 by inflationary standards...

I bought a new truck October of 2014. I was going to drive a 1999 Chevy Malibu into the ground and it went a bit earlier then I wanted to. We donated it to a local career and tech center as a project car. So I had to get a lease for the last 3 years. My lease and my wife's car were paid off at the same time and so we had the money available for a truck.
I shopped for the last three years, I signed up for every incentive and information request form that I could. I was able to get 14k off the asking price with low apr.
1. I used truecar which is a buying program that our work has available for us. saved 12k
2. I have my own small business with a tax id number saved 1k
3. Flyers that were sent to me gave me another 1k off the price.
4. They were also having a low apr event.
I went to the dealer found the truck I wanted. Dodge Ram Crew 1500 4x4 big horn with spray in bed liner, tow package and it had the tonnue cover.
Then I started dropping the price, I felt like I went 8 rounds but I was happy in the end, I also turned down the extended warranty 3 times and paid a 1/3 of what they originally offered.
The price I paid is less then what used trucks were going. I loved the 2013 burnt orange color, but no rebates would work on a used truck. I went with the silver to match our dirt/modified road.
I test drove a lot and was very happy, still happy with my Dodge. It rides like a dream, gets great gas mileage and works for us.

I came across that factoid a couple day ago reading the news but don't remember which site. It may have been a photo series on the 1970's.

It's not on my bucket list. I visited Disney Land in 1988, that will last me.
I do remember regularly watching a weekly Disney Show on TV in the '50s in black and white. IIRC the theme song was "When You Wish Upon a Star ..." Not sure about the timing of that though since there were several Disney TV shows. My Mom took us to see the 1956 release of Fantasia when it hit the theaters, that was awesome.

My visit was in 1968... it was huge deal since it was the first time we took a family vacation...
In the 80's I had a friend that was in management there which was a nice perk I used a few times... walk up to the VIP Services and have him paged... worked like a charm... also really impressed my out of town visitors.
He has since gone on to head a multimillion dollar nationwide company... however, to this day, he credits a lot of his success to training received during his Disney years... it was also the time when the last of the Disney family influence faded away...
The last time I was there it was a weeklong tractor celebration... one restored tractor after another down mainstreet... quite impressive!

The big Disney change came with Michael Eisner 1984-2005 and the expansion to owning ABC and assorted media outlets... plus international expansion and licensing anything and everything beyond anything Walt could ever have comprehended...

Sunday nights agrees with my memory. I don't recall any of the Disney episodes other than the Davey Crockett series. I believe that the Disney show was one of the first to be broadcast in color.

My family has never been first adopters in anything... usually the last to buy into "New" technology.
That said... Dad came home from work one night and said he had a big surprise for the family... and we kids would just have to wait and see...
Still remember the shiny new delivery truck that pulled up to deliver a new color TV... it said something like another Zenith Color TV being delivered in your neighborhood...
We were the first in the neighborhood and word spread fast... neighbors from all around dropped by to see our new color set... quite a big deal when you are very young.
Cartoons were some of the first color programming and one was Mighty Mouse.... I bet within a 6 months... everyone that came to see our Color set had one...
It seemed every week a new show was going color... like the Fugitive, Gilligan's Island, I dream of Jeanne...
Anyway... that was in the early 1960's.... and now it is 2015. My parents have bought two Television Sets in their entire life... both Zenith Color Consoles made in the USA... the one from the 1960's and one to replace it in the 80's.
By the way... the set they were given when they married was an old Philco with the revolving picture tube... looked very futuristic...
There was a time when trucks were really quite reasonable... then came out the fleets of Japanese and Japanese import trucks in the late 60's and early 70's... Ford Courier, Chevy Luv, Datsun, Toyota... etc...

To be pedantic,, you can't buy a ticket to Disney World, you buy a ticket to Magic Kingdom or one of the other four theme parks or two water parks. :laughing::laughing::laughing:
To be fair, when Disney World was built in FLA there was only Magic Kingdom, so saying Disney World and Magic Kingdom means the same thing to people who went to the park back in the 70s.
Magic Kingdom today is much different than what it was in 1971. Quite a few more rides have been added and the park has been expanded greatly. Much of Magic Kingdom is the same but it has been added on too over the years. I suppose you could say that trucks have more HP and load carrying ability but I don't know how that compares to Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride that have been added to Magic Kingdom over the years. :laughing::laughing::laughing:
There is a very NICE restaurant on top of the Contemporary Hotel which is the hotel the mono rail runs through. The restaurant is one the top places to eat at Disney and overlooks Magic Kingdom. Back when Eisner was in charge,we were visiting Disney World and eating at the restaurant. We were told we could not eat at the restaurant the next night because Eisner had bought out the entire place for a party. I don't know if Disney was paying the bill or if Eisner did but I thought it stunk. Some people only get to go to Disney once in a lifetime and that could have been there only chance to visit that restaurant. He is supposed to have had a big motor boat docked at the Grand Floridan hotel. There was a very big boat over there, I don't know if it was his or not, it disappeared years ago. The boat was way to big for the lakes....
Disney has had some pretty bad leadership since Walt died that is for sure. They have minimized the training that new employees receive to save money and it shows.

Nothing to do with trucks, but Disney stock has done very well for me over the last few years.
Have you seen the price of USED trucks? 15K or more for something with over 100K miles on it... Almost makes 26K for a new one seem like a bargain.

Yeah, used ones are insane! I am considering replacing my 2004 truck. Since I been driving a car the last 6 years for the majority of my transportation, I only use the truck about 5k a year. I thought, why not a used one?
All I can find is 3-5 year old trucks, 50k plus miles, for $27-30,000- speced the same as a new model that I can buy for $33-36000.
