I wonder /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ..... am I the only one on TBN that really doesn't care what color my implements are? I don't have my tractor as a show piece. I am trying to start a farm as a small business. I bought a quality tractor and I look for quality implements that do the job I am buying them for. I could care less what the color is. Granted... most implements are not available in a color that matches my tractor.... and if they were, I probably wouldn't want them in that color anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just don't understand why folks get so excited about implements painted to match their tractor. Would someone explain?

That's easy, you only have to keep 1 color of touchup paint. I admit, I only buy red implements, don't care what brand they are; however, are you talking about guys facetiously referring to implement color when they really mean brand names?

I can't say I've ever read a thread about people getting 'excited' about this. Got an example?

Why would I get a different color if I can get one that matches? I can get JD or other brands that come in matching colors and I think it looks better, especially for items like the FEL or weight box that stay on my tractor almost all the time.

I paid a decent sum for the tractor I don't want it to look "cobbled" together. If I saved huge $$ I might consider other colors otherwise I'll try and get green.

Once upon a time when I was a kid we raised beef cattle on a decent size place. The biggest tractors we had were Ford 8N's, Fordson Majors and an assortment of other tractors ... We used the best implements we could and never thought about paint.. most of these were modified by us before they ever got to the field ... My Dad had a knack of knowing how to get the most out of a piece of equipment and we made it happen. The only paint they ever saw came from the factory when they were built! But they were well greased and always ready to go. The only machine we did not change thought we did add capability to the blade by building a bush rake that was mounted to a pivot on each side of the blade so that when we needed it we could drop it down. This piece of equipment was an old Cat D-7 with a cable PCU. He felt that it was very well made. Implement color is not important to me nor was it to my Dad. One other piece of equipment he deemed was made right was a JD 4020 we had. Just my 2 cents worth …

I guess if I can buy one that matches my tractor that would be my first choice. But if there is one there that does match my tractor, but I could get another like product but in a different color for less monies, I guess I would take the other color.

I guess it's kind of like buying a topper to go with your pickem-up truck. You are going to get it to match.

Other than that, I could care less about the color

Well Ok, maybe my blue tractor would not like an orange or John Deere Green attachment, but that is my tractor's problem and it will have to deal with it.

NOPE! I could care less about what color the attachment is .
As long as it does what's expected of it . I pretty much feel the same about tractors . If it is what you want and does the job you expect it to do color is insignificant .John

Nope, color was not much of a consideration when I bought implements, just as it isn't much of a consideration when I buy an automobile or truck. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mine are nearly all red/brown when I buy them, after I run over them with a wire brush, and slather some rust converter on they come out black. My tractor is two shades of blue, one is the original shade and the other is what they put on when the "reconditioned" it. Today I actually bought a blue implement, just lucky I guess.

Is that really true? You go in order an implement that is availale in multiple colors including the one that matches your tractor and when the salesmen asks which one, you say "surprise me"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Come on now, be honest. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just feel within reason I will try to keep it all matching. If JD wants too much for the green part I'll go to Midwest or someone that offers my color at a reduced rate. I can save money and still look goooood! Somthing like a PHD that will be used rarely I would not bother worrying about the color ( as long as it's green or yellow). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This tractor is worked pretty hard but it is also a source of pleasure, if I were a 'true" farmer where it was just a tool and I had multiple tractors I might feel differently.

Boy you guys think that the brand wars are bad here you should be in on some of the farmer conversations!!!! Most farmers are pretty brand loyal.

Some of the people on here live in high dollar digs. Their wives would never talk to them again if they let the neighbors see them pulling a red finish mower behind a green tractor! Green behind orange? Can you say color clash? What if the house is backed up to the golf course where * everybody* can see it? Appearances must be maintained!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am not talking brand loyaly just aesthetics. I am really just talking about having the tractor look like a complete unit rather than a collection of other vendors parts.

I know many farmers are brand loyal, I am saying if they're not buying JD they probably wouldn't care if it is a green color in another brand. I would still prefer JD but if not I'd get a green 'someotherbrand" implement if needed.

While a farmer cares about sheer performance because this is a tool, I use my tractor for pleasure as well as work. Now I am not going to sacrifice quality for color or looks but I will pay extra ( a little)to have it at least look good even if it's not the true JD part.

That was my point.

Yes, if it were available in multiple colors and one matched the tractor (at the same price), I'd take that, but personally, I've never had that situation. My tractors were orange and the implements I bought happened to be red (not all the same shade of red), except for one yellow box blade. I took what they had without asking about colors. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif In fact, I'd have had a green brush hog if the John Deere dealer hadn't quoted such a ridiculous price. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I do prefer a matching brand of front end loader, regardless of color, but of course it usually matches.

Twice (in '86 and in '93) I've handled new car purchases by telephone; gave all the specs to get exactly what I wanted I thought. And then the person on the other end called me back to ask, "What color?"; the one thing that I hadn't thought of or mentioned. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif So I just called my wife and asked her what color she wanted. But she never had any interest in my tractors or implements. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't. I have a Long Landtrac (purple) with Long FEL and backhoe (black). My brush hog is a Rhino (redish-orange), my blade a Landpride (yellow), my carryall, subsoiler, and potato plow KingKutter (yellow), chipper, PHD, plow, and sicklebar (red).

I figure the dirt I dig/move, the brush/grass I mow, and the wood I chip don't care what color I use.

I guess this is what separates me from others -- I buy and do things for MY benefit, not the benefit or thoughts of others. I will pull a Rhino (red) mower regardless of what color my tractor may be.

So far I have yet to see a dealer that carries the same implement ( brand, specs, size, duty..etc ) in different color schemes. Just can't think of one....

My implements range from red to yellow to black to rust.

I guess I'm one of the odd balls, but I actually prefer my implements being a different color than the tractor.

Now I don't mind that the loader and backhoe on mine came in the same orange color. I kind of like that, but also liked a tractor I saw recently at my dealers [a Cub ] that had black loader and backhoe hanging on it.

Come think of it, I'll bet that is why I have trouble finding the tractor when the backhoe and loader are on it! Everything being the same color makes it so confusing... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Glad they still make the the seats black! That's probably the only thing that saves me... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Even then it is difficult though, when the backhoe is on. With two black seats I have to figure out which one is facing forward! Sure would be easier if the tractor and backhoe were different colors!

Bingo! Where's that paint brush??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
