The only safety device I would like to change is the neutral safety interlock on my Hydrostatic BX.

It seems counter intuitive to have to shift the Hydro into neutral to restart and loose all front and rear wheel hydro braking.

*My suggestion would be to have a neutral interlock momentary by-pass button.
I have a BX23 and 2 BX1500s.
*There should be 2 starting positions for the shift lever Park and Netural just like in a car and they should work the same way.
Can you imagne the night mare it would be if you could only start your car in netural with no brakes .!

I think a seat safety interlock on an auto would be on the seat belt keeping it from starting unless the seat belt was latched.

This feature would definitely save more lives each year than the seat safety interlock on a tractor.

I am NOT saying that I would like this feature on my auto even though I always use the seatbelt.

The auto manufacturers tried the seat-belt interlock in the 70's, and people who didn't want to wear a seat belt, just latched the belt and sat on top of it.

Pretty much what I thought
those that did it and those that did it but are afraid to say so ...:)

I probably shouldn't admit it but I have disabled the seat safety. When working in bumpy fields it would kill the motor intermittently and make the tractor jerk. None of my previous tractors had a seat switch so I obviously know to turn the pto off when getting off.

I don't let other people operate the tractor besides my wife, and I'm very careful to explain what she can and can't do while using it. Luckily she is overly cautious and will shut the pto and the tractor off for any reason.

The other larger ag tractors I use also don't have seat safety switches even though they are brand new, they do have a buzzer if you put the parking brake on with the pto on I believe.

Let's say you are picking up something and need to chain it. Get on the tractor,.... Get off,.... Get on,.... Get off,.... Get on, get off,.... Get on...............................

You've been watching me work, haven't you?;);)

Dont know if farm tractors sold under North American homologation also have these safety devices, but over here in Europe, only a lawn mower has it. Its quite annoying, putting away a garden seat while mowing the lawn, and you need to pull the rope again...

Dont know what its good for anyways, mostly its the bystanders that get hurt while the operator runs it.. If youŕe smart enough to operate the thing, you must be smart enough to shut it off when pulling a plug of wet grass from underneath.... dont think it really helps promote safety, annoyed people usually work more unsafe :D

My montana did not come with a safety seat interlock. I think the only actual safeties on it are:

1. Wont start with out the clutch pushed in

2. Wont start with the PTO switch turned on.

Other than that you can get out of the seat and it wont die. Use implements in reverse or anything else the tractor can do.
Will it start in gear? If so that clutch safety is dangerous! My preference would be to have ONLY an in gear start interlock in parallel with a seat switch or some other switch convenient only to the operator platform. That way you would have to be in the seat or out of gear to start. After its running Id rather be on my own.

Anyone who wants to avoid legal repercussions, in the future, would not admit to this in writing on a public forum....

The Party Responsible is the Dealer and manufacturer Not the Owner.
It would be terrible to be faced with "safeties" that cannot be overridden, but this is what youre driving with a statement like this.

Start Rant:

That is a load of crap!

If you disable the safety - you are responsible! Or at least that is the way it should be.

IMO, that is one of the biggest problems in this country; people not willing to take responsibility for their own actions and looking for someone else to take the blame.

Ever consider how many cents of every dollar you spend goes towards liability? It is the consumer who pays for all the past and future stupidity.

Pure bull$h*t.

End Rant.
