GF in the 80s carried credit card balances and when I questioned it, she blurted out, that she didn't make enough! But ate out at least once a week and would go on vacation if the opportunity presented itself. She is probably still paying for those meals she ate in the 80s lol

When I run across a young guy thinking about getting married, I always tell him to check her credit card statements. "If she can't live on her income, she won't be able to live on yours either."

I found it odd, because at that same time, this woman religiously recorded every dime she spent. But she couldn't understand the compounding folley of CC interest.

Having owned a bunch of Police Cars a long time ago and been keenly interestd in them, I can tell you the terrible moisture that gets trapped in the heavy insulation under the rubber. Maybe good for clean up, but bad for the floor underneith. There are too many places where water can find its way underneith. Fleets don't keep their vehicles long enough to care what's going on under the rubber mats..
Sounds like a good reason to go OEM carpet and add weathertec or similar. Gives you an option as well maybe wet vs. dry season or taking the Mrs out on a date. :D

Whenever talk turns to the high cost of vehicles I like to point out that
A) they also last considerably longer.
B) while it's easy (for some) to pay 70k or more for a pickup that's completely their choice. You can still spend half that and get something which is equally as versatile. It does require shopping around, perhaps buying end of year models and not getting fussy about things such as what makes the windows go up and down.
Most importantly, get what you need rather than want.

Who is to say what people "need"? I could argue, what people need most, they aren't getting and aren't looking for either.

I used to follow that mantra but now as I enter the final quarter of my life... I tend to purchase what I want (within reason) vs. minimal need. This goes for most higher ticket items such as appliances, tools, cars, etc. In many cases, I figure it will likely be the last time I buy such an item and I want to enjoy the luxury. Then (and important) take pride and the time to take care of the item.

That's a question only they can answer, isn't it? I "need" that extra $40k, while a lot of people feel that they need all of the bells and whistles instead.

What I do envy though is the CD player which somebody posted about. I even considered-briefly- putting my old Supertuner III in but it wouldn't be worth it.

I don't know. I have been around rich people a long time, especially in my security business. They may have money but don't seem to get any bargains. Often when I buy, top of the line, supposedly high quality, it's just a new dimension of "junk". So you just throw more money away. Like buying an exotic high end vehicle. All pretty much junk that aren't worth anything in short order.

I had a Pioneer SuperTuner... maybe a few models before your Supertuner III? It was a cassette player that I mounted on the 'hump' of my '68 Mustang about 40 or so years ago. :D

Mine was in my '93 Dakota. Also my '91 Toyota. And my '98 GMC. Then my '87 GMC "toy truck"...
