I like Cats, I have a 3406E. I also like Detroit's. DDEC is light years ahead of any engine management system that Caterpillar has. It's interesting, Detroit complied with the emission standards set forth by the Federal Gummit while Cat paid the fine. Cummins folded and Mack said heck with it.
As of today, engines in the agricultural arena don't have to be emissions compliant, but they will and very soon. The Japanese are already enviromentally aware and their engines reflect that.
