I use unlined Deerskin gloves from TSC . They aren't water resistant , so I have several pairs . But, they do afford some protection from the elements . They also allow you a good bit of dexterity ,which helps when doing things like picking up nails from a tool pouch . They wear extremely well and can be purchased with a lining for a bit of extra comfort . John

Like you, Tom, I just use White Mule gloves and have been well satisfied with them.

I usually buy Wells Lamont cowhide gloves. I need XXXL which is generally hard to find. There is a local flea market where a dealer sells seconds (with cosmetic blemishes) at 2 pair for $15.00 which is a bargain. They have held up well for me.

I buy the cheap leather gloves at the local trade days flea market. There is always at least one vendor and usually two. They have leather gloves from about $3/pair up to about $6 per pair. I found these last longer than the $8-$12 gloves I used to buy at HD.

I have used leather gloves for years but a friend gave me a pair of cotton gloves with the plastic dots on them for Christmas and I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I started wearing them while using the tractor. I found they work really well. The plastic dots give me a better (non-slip) grip and they let my hands "breathe" better than leather gloves do, important in the Texas heat.

I bought a dozen pair at the flea market last month for $10.

When they get dirty I throw them in the wash and get another pair. At $1 a pair I don't feel bad about throwing them away if they get a hole. And you can save the good half of a pair and use it with a half from another pair later, just remember to get the holes in alternate sides or you end up with 4 right hand and 0 left hand gloves!

I have several different kinds of gloves for different situations. By far the most durable are my Carhartts, but they take a couple weeks to break in and don't permit the type of dexterity you mentioned.

But I have a pair of framers' gloves (the kind with half the finger exposed so you can pick up nails and screws) that protect the palm and still allow detail work. They work very well for me.

Wells Lamont cowhide, with reinforced palm...Costco price for three pair, $20. I wear them out regularly but I like the fit and feel. Allows me good dexterity, I can even pick up a single staple when repairing the fence.

The only issue I have is the yellow dye that covers my hands when I get them wet..but it washes right off.

I am a utility warehouseman, and have been purchasing Yellowstone Leather gloves for our linemen for the past 16 years.

Quality product, long wearing, and comfortable.

We used to buy the elkskin, but they were pretty thick, and we went to deerskin, which were great for warehouse work, but didn't wear as well as the elk.

A few years ago we started buying the goatskin. The linemen would run me out of town if I bought anything else /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I had some from walmart all leather I think $5. I got my fatehr a pair and he said their the best gloves he ever used.
So imwent to get another pair becuase I lost one glove, well they dont sell them so I got a DIckies brand for $5 at TSC.
Seem to be thicker leather. I know if i got a $30 pair of gloves I woudl lose them.
