Who makes Sears lawn/garden tractors?

Does anyone know who manufactures the Sears line of lawn and garden tractors?

I'm inclined to believe it's MTD. And if it is...is MTD made in the states or in Asia/Mexico/Near East?

Now ya know, I always wondered that myself. I'll be interesterd in the answer. But, I really had to reply because I agree, Dogs, Guns, Tractors where's the downside? I like 'em all, but I tend to favor the 168 grain BTHP

its AYP (American Yard Products). thats all i know.
they make Sears, Husqvarna, poulan and probably alot more.

I'm inclined to think it's AYP also. Call your local Sears store and ask them. These things seem to change all the time. Gerard

Yep, y'all are correct. They're made by AYP which is owned by Electrolux.

As others have indicated AYP (Husqvarna) makes most(?) (all?) of Sears models. Having looked at both Sears and Husqvarna last year I had to wonder who makes the Sears line without the gear/hydro handle on the fender. All Husqvarna had the handle on the fender (I was only interested in Hydro Models). Sears has some models with the Hydro pedal controlled by the foot, Husqvarna did not.

Ended up with the Husqvarna due to dealer support.

My next question would be....why does Sears constantly change models? If you look in a Sears flyer...you almost always see the fine print that reads "close-out models".

I understand the need for changing models, but they change models more often than I change my socks.

I'm a John Deere lawn and garden type of guy anyway.

Yeah, and it applies to just about everything they sell except wrenches and brassieres -- and I'm not sure about the brassieres.

Simple rule of thumb: Never buy anything from Sears unless it is on sale, except a wrench -- and maybe a bra. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
