Who makes Sears lawn/garden tractors?

Hey IndyDirtFarmer,

I recently went by to visit and introduce myself to one of our new neighbors. The Husband/Man of the House, just impressed me as uptight.

I have noticed, as I passed by their place on several occasions, that the wife was driving the tractor and I've rarely seen him on the tractor at all! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I wonder if that could be the problem /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have heard it was marketing. Sears like to state in adds 'our lowest price on this model'. If the model number has changed (even if nothing else has) they can make that claim.

Thats pretty much it, if its on sale its got to be a good deal right? Makes it easier to get people into the store. I hope it dose not change with the new partner /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Last summer I was looking for a lawn tractor to replace my 15+ year old Roper Rally that I managed to tear the deck off of. I looked at JD's and a few others. I saw Sears had a sale going, so I stopped in. I started looking and a salesman jumped on me. I told him I was interested in the 25hp Kohler with the 54" deck, brush guard, Hydro Trans and 3 bag bagger. But I thought their price was way out of line. He ask me what I thought was a fair price. I told him what I was willing to pay and he said, "OK"! I almost fell over, but I said can you have it delivered by the end of the week. He said, "no problem".

I never thought you could dicker prices with Sears. I guess I was wrong!!! I ended up saving over $600.00 above their advertised "Sale" price. Needles to say I bought it. It is an ok lawn tractor, but for what I paid for it and the warranty, I think it was a great deal.

So the next time you go to Sears, tell them you are not happy with their price, what have you got to loose?

I've done it on high value items. Think the salespeople do have some leeway both on base price and with their commission.

In some cases it was a direct question, In others it required indecision and waiting.
