Who rides motorcycles?

Sorry about the picture quality, it was getting dark.

Grandson's first official ride on "his" bike. We found him a 1986 Honda Nighthawk 700S that's a little more suited to his 6-2 210lb frame than Mom's old Ninja 250.

Left to right, Grandson and his Nighthawk, Mom (my daughter) and her '16 Bolt and The Old Fart and his '16FJ.

We're are at Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park (Schoodic Side) which we are fortunate enough to live 10 minutes from. Perfect training ride, low speed limit, twisty road and 1 way traffic. We do "the loop" 2-3 times a week. Can't beat the scenery.

We got back from a 8 day 2500 mile ride a couple weeks ago. Utah,AZ,CO and maybe WY. When God made motorcycle roads.. Those are the states where he put them.

We rode Cali a couple years ago. Started in San Fran and headed north through Napa and Redwood area then out to Tahoe etc. very nice areas.

Love the Seal Cove Auto Museum. Taken some other trips as well.

Rode out to Colo a few weeks ago. Had a blast riding some of the passes out there. I did get into some hot windy conditions out in KS.. 108 with a south wind that was trying to blow me off the road. Ha

I'd like to do a 'little bike' trip out to CO one summer, and concentrate on just riding the passes and a boat load of singletrack! I haven't ridden in CO since 2010 (if you don't count when I was there in 2014 and stayed on pavement, which I don't really count

)

How are you liking your new FJ? And your daughter's Bolt?

I LOVE the FJ. Very "spirited" engine (somewhere between 100 and 110 HP, depending on who you believe) with an upright seating position suitable for long distances and old farts. Goes like stink if you want to, but just as happy donking along at 35. The seat is less than wonderful and will be replaced in the Spring. Only other thing it needs is mirror extenders so I can see around my fat carcass. I'm not thrilled with the "Transformer" styling, but I can't see it when I'm in the saddle...

I'm real glad the daughter got the Bolt. It's perfect for her as she's able to plant both feet firmly on the ground and it's heavy enough that the wind doesn't bother it like it did with her 250 Ninja. Personally, I'm not impressed for two reasons:

1. The cruiser seating position is just plain painful for my crippled old butt.

2. The engine, while entirely competent to move the bike right along, has zero personality. No torquey feeling at any point in the RPM range.

When I was shopping for a new bike, I was really lusting after the Yamaha SCR950 which uses the same engine as the Bolt. Glad I got the chance to ride the Bolt before I plunked my money down for the Scrambler. I absolutely LOVE the look but would have been disappointed with the performance.
